Where is the taskbar in Windows 11
Windows 11 doesn’t have an overwhelming number of new features and there are only a few that users may want to update for. This is despite the fact that Windows 11 is a free upgrade for Windows 10 users. One major, and very obvious difference between Windows 11 and Windows 10 is the design.
Windows 11 has a new design and this new design comes with changes to some of the oldest Windows features.
Where is the Taskbar on Windows 11
The taskbar is the bar that appears, by default, at the bottom of the screen. It spans from one edge of the screen to the other. The Start button is in the left corner and the group of icons, and the clock collectively make up the system tray in the right corner.
Windows 11 still has a taskbar and it is exactly where you expect it to be; at the bottom of the screen. It works a little differently now e.g., you cannot right-click it and open the task manager, and the start button, as well as all other pinned apps, are positioned in the middle instead of at the left.
Customize Taskbar on Windows 11
If you miss the way the taskbar has always worked on older versions of Windows, and you’d like the taskbar on Windows 11 to look more like the taskbar on Windows 10, you can customize its appearance to that effect.
You can move the Start button, and the pinned apps back to the left;
- Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
- Go to Personalization.
- Select Taskbar.
- Expand Taskbar behaviors.
- Open the Taskbar alignment dropdown and select Left.
To remove icons/widgets from the taskbar;
- Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
- Go to Personalization.
- Select Taskbar.
- Turn the Widgets switch off to disable widgets.
- Turn the Chat switch off to hide Teams.
To customize the system tray;
- Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
- Go to Personalization.
- Select Taskbar.
- Expand Taskbar corner icons.
- Turn the Pen menu, Touch keyboard, and Virtual touchpad icons on or off.
- Expand Taskbar corner overflow.
- Select which icons should appear in the system tray.
- Turn off icons that you want to hide from the system tray.
Conclusion
Most of the ‘new’ taskbar behavior on Windows 11 is reversible. The only exception is the context menu. No matter what you do, as of now, there is no way to restore the context menu for the taskbar. You can only access the taskbar settings but nothing else. Access to the task manager from the taskbar is gone until someone develops a third-party app for the job.
