What should I put in my Minecraft survival base
A Minecraft Survival Base is the home you create to suit every in-game need. Think of it as headquarters for you in-game character. Whenever you need something, this base is where you will go. As such, it will become your respawning point.
Minecraft Survival Base
There are no strict in-game rules for what should be in a Minecraft Survival Base but as you play the game, you learn what you need. Your first few bases may not be the best and you may move out soon to build something that’s more suitable.
That said, keep the following in mind when you’re making your base.
Location
Pick a good location. Ideally, you should be near a water source though you can always get infinite water in Minecraft. It’s a good idea to build near a village, or to build near a cave that is rich in resources and has lava pools. It will make it easier to get resources. You can get creative and create a tunnel from your base to the cave for easier access.
Many players use game-generated caves to make their base.
Blast resistant
Your base should be blast resistant. It is best for keeping everything safe from creepers. Explore designs and you’ll find plenty that look good but are also sturdy.
Avoid making everything out of wood.
Storage rooms
Your survival base is where you will store items until you use them. Basically, you need to create a well-organized room that will be filled with chests. Make sure you design it so that you can add a sign for each chest. You can create several storage rooms, each for a different type of item e.g. a storage room for food, a storage room for armor, a storage room for basic ores, etc.
A Bedroom
Make sure you place your bed in a room. You should go to sleep at least once so that your respawn point is set to your new base.
Potions room
Set up a dedicated room for potions. You can move chests with potion items to this room. It will be easier to brew if the ingredients are in the same room.
Enchantment room
Create a separate enchantment room. Fill it with bookshelves so that you can get the maximum level of enchantments. It may take time to craft all these bookshelves but you should nevertheless create the room with the end-goal in mind.
Crafting room
A crafting room basically has the crafting table. You may end up placing crafting tables in several different rooms, and areas outside your base. This is also a suitable place to put the furnace.
A farm
You should create a farm. It doesn’t necessarily have to be inside the base but it should be fenced off and well lit so that mobs don’t destroy it. It may be worth creating an Iron Golem to keep the farm safe.
An infinite source of water
An infinite source of water is one of the easiest things to craft in Minecraft and it’s incredibly useful. Ideally, you should have several of these throughout your base. In case you accidentally empty one source, you still have the other.
A Barn
Minecraft doesn’t have actual barns. This will be an outdoor structure that you make to contain animals. If you choose to not keep animals in Minecraft, you can skip this room.
A Nether portal
You should create a nether portal near your base but do not create one inside it. To make travel from your base to the portal easier, and safer, create a tunnel to the portal.
A tower
This is great for when you want to take a look around. You can construct it such that it allows you to kills skeletons and Endermen more easily.
Traps
You can set up traps around your base for various mobs. They’ll keep your base safe and help you passively collect resources. There are lots of online tutorials that you can check out to build traps.

Minecraft survival bases can be extremely elaborate. Players tend to constantly build them up. If you’re constructing your first base, it’s good to start with floor plans i.e, lay down the first level of blocks, and then build up. A good base is one that you can expand i.e., add more rooms to. Look for a spot that is easy to expand on and you’ll be able to use the base for a long time.
