View & Extract Resources From EXE, DLL, CPL, & More File Types

Alpha SF Resource Explorer is an application to view the resources included in EXE, DLL, CPL, SYS, SCR, OCX, AMC and AX files which is a ‘PE WIN32 Executable File’ . The idea behind it is to allow users to view the content of an application’s executable files or DLL libraries, etc to extract useful information. It is further possible to extract icons, images, text boxes, and data handling forms which are included in the above mentioned executable files.

Using this tool, you will be able to view and save raw text, images, and audio files (MP3, WAV) used in the executable file which may appear in the program. Once you have specified the executable file, it will automatically list down all the resources in left sidebar.

You can save icons and cursors in Windows native icon and cur format, and in BMP format. The Dialog refers to the dialog libraries (dll, sys) of supported file, other forms/text files are categorized in different sections which are subjected to the file structure in question.

It doesn’t necessarily show you the same structure or hierarchy for all supported files, as every executable application or DLL library, etc., is compiled in a different way. For instance, a DLL library may come with multi-icon set, having different message tables, dialog structure, and forms.

  1. This program doesn’t allow you to extract resources from .sys files. I tried it with logow.sys from windows 98 and it said that it wasn’t a win 32 executable file.

    • Driver files (.sys) are supported. But logow.sys from Windows 98 is not really a .sys file, but simply a renamed bmp file. So you don’t need to “extract” anything from it, simply rename it logow.bmp or something like that.
