How to Stream Netflix on Discord
Discord is used for all types of communication but its users are most often people who game or who like to watch live game streams. As such, Discord has a built-in option to stream gameplay directly from the app. You do not need to rely on any third-party tools to do the job.
Stream Netflix on Discord
Discord is a communication tool and while it’s geared towards gamers, you can essentially use for it anything, including a Netflix streaming party. Here’s how you can stream Netflix on Discord.
How to stream Netflix on Discord
In order to stream Netflix on Discord you need;
- A Netflix account
- The Discord app installed or Discord open in a modern web browser like Chrome.
- Join a server that you have admin access to on Discord (you can create your own).
Once you have these basic things all set up, follow the steps below to start streaming Netflix.
- Open Discord.
- Select the Server.
- Click the settings button at the bottom of the column on the left.
- Go to Activity Status.
- Make sure the switch is turned on.
- Click add and add Google Chrome or whichever browser it is you’re streaming Netflix in.
- Return to the Discord server.
- Select a voice enabled channel e.g. the General channel.
- Click the screen button.
- Select the Chrome tab that Netflix is streaming in.
- Start streaming and everyone in the General channel will be able to watch with you.
Limitations
Streaming is bandwidth heavy process which is why, if you’re using the free version of Discord, you will be limited to 30 FPS and 720p resolution. If you want better frame rates or higher resolutions, you’re going to have to get Discord Nitro. It costs $100/year or $10/month.
As for the streaming quality, it depends on your own bandwidth since you’ll be playing Netflix and also streaming it, your bandwidth usage will be high.
Conclusion
Netflix doesn’t block video when it’s streamed over Discord. It normally blocks screen recording and streaming tools but the limitation doesn’t seem to work or apply in the case of Discord. Make sure you enable voice/mic access so that the audio can stream as well. If you want, and if you have the bandwidth for it, you can also enable your webcam during the stream. You will get a preview of the stream in Discord as well but it may be paused to preserve system resources. It doesn’t mean the stream has stopped. Everyone else in the channel can still watch it.
