How to buy a Steam digital gift card

Gift cards have been around for ages and they exist for both traditional brick and mortar stores, as well as for online stores. In fact, stores that have an online presence i.e. a website where you can purchase from, will generally accept all types of gift cards for the store.

Steam is the largest online store for buying (and selling) games. Much like you’d get a digital gift card for iTunes, you can get one for Steam. A Steam gift card can be used to buy games, and to buy other items from the Steam Community Market. They make great gifts if someone you know is looking to buy a major/expensive title that going to be released on or around New Year.

Buy a Steam gift card for yourself

You cannot buy a Steam gift card for yourself. You can add funds to your own account but you can’t buy yourself a present like that. The gift card is just that; a card. It doesn’t offer discounts or anything. You get the face value of the card to use for buying games. There is no limit on how many gift cards you can purchase since they’re digital and it’s unlikely that stock will run out.

Conclusion

Steam gift cards are available for sale on other websites e.g., you can find them on Amazon. They may be real, or they may be fake. You will also find intermediary sites that charge you a fee for purchasing a gift card. This tends to happen when you do not have the right instrument to complete the purchase e.g. a credit card but can transfer funds via a Paypal account, or something that Steam doesn’t support. The website may be legit but it’s up to you to do your research and make sure you’re not falling a scam. You will end up paying a little more than the face value of the card.
