How to fix skins fail to load on Minecraft

Minecraft comes with a bunch of skins that you can use for your in-game character. You can also customize the character using the built-in editor or you can download a skin online and use it instead.

Skins fail to load on Minecraft

Minecraft players who use the Windows 10 i.e. Bedrock version have complained of skins not loading in the customization drawer. A few players who own the Java edition have had similar problems but this appears to be a Bedrock issue for the most part. The skins are still in their respective location/drawer but they do not load or appear in the customization drawer. Here’s how you can fix it.

Load or create a new skin

Try selecting a new skin from the skin drawer or importing a new one. You can check out how to download and import a skin here.

to select and load a different skin from the skin drawer;

  1. Open Minecraft.
  2. Click  the Dressing room button under your character on the splash/home screen.
  3. Select Edit Character.
  4. Select a skin from the skin drawer.
  5. It should load and appear in the character drawer.
  6. Close Minecraft.
  7. Open Minecraft again.
  8. Look for the skin(s) that were not loading before and they should load this time.

Load skin in world

The skin is still there but not appearing in the selection drawer. This method can force it to appear.

  1. Open Minecraft.
  2. Go to Dressing Room.
  3. Select the skin (it won’t load but select it anyway).
  4. Once selected, enter a world or create a new one.
  5. Go to the Emote menu (press B on the keyboard).
  6. Select the Skins tab.
  7. Select the skin that did not load from this tab.
  8. Once it loads in the game world, return to the main menu.
  9. Go to Dressing Room.
  10. The skin should now load in the character drawer.

Conclusion

This glitch is pretty common for a lot of Minecraft players. It appears to go away if the game is updated or if it’s reinstalled. You can wait for an update to the game if the above solutions do not work or you can uninstall and reinstall the game. Before you uninstall the game, make sure you back up all your worlds. The back up option is built into the game. Select a world, and select the Export option. Once you’ve uninstalled the game and installed it again, use the import feature to import the worlds you exported before uninstalling the game.
