How To Minimize Any App To System Tray On Windows 10

Apps that can run in the background often have an option to minimize to the system tray. uTorrent is an example of one such app. You can add your torrent to the app, and close it. It will continue to run in the system tray and download your torrent in the background. Not all apps have this option but you can minimize any app to the system tray with another app called Minimize To Tray.

Minimize App To System Tray

Download and install Minimize to Tray. Once it’s installed, you want to first run the app’s configuration window. This is where you configure which apps will minimize to the system tray. It’s pretty easy; just drag and drop an app’s EXE on to the list of applications. Alternatively, you can type the name of the app in the filename box and the app will automatically look for the EXE. If the above two options don’t work, you can use the browse button to look for the EXE and add it to the app. Once you’ve added all the apps you want to minimize, click the Ok button, and close the app. It will minimize to the system tray itself.

To minimize an app to the system tray, simply click the minimize button on the app’s window. It will minimize to the system tray even if the app itself doesn’t natively support the feature. To maximize the app, simply click its icon in the system tray.

This app has two great uses; you can use it to hide an app quickly and intuitively. You can hide apps with special keyboard shortcuts but there’s nothing more intuitive than the minimize button that you’ve been using for age. The second use is of course to minimize an app that doesn’t need an entire window to do what it does. For example, if you’re downloading a file in your browser, you don’t really need it to open an entire window. You can minimize it to the system tray and continue working on whatever you need to.

When you minimize an app to the system tray with this tool, the minimized app will not appear in the Taskview on Windows 10, and likewise, you won’t be able to see a preview window of the app on the taskbar since there will be no icon for it. Running an app minimized this way will not reduce its impact on your system.
