How to: Minecraft Water breathing potion
Minecraft has underwater structures that you can explore. These structures have the usual treasure chests but sunken ships carry treasure maps, and treasure maps lead you to buried treasure where you can find the Heart of the Sea.
Minecraft water breathing potion
Players will drown in water in Minecraft. Much like a player catches on fire and dies when immersed in lava, likewise, a player will die from lack of oxygen under water.
You can remain submerged for a small period of time. The bubbles you see when you’re under water show you how much ‘air’ you have left before you must surface or you will drown. This time is insufficient if you want to explore a sunken ship. To explore a sunken ship, or to spend an extended amount of time under water, you need to craft a water breathing potion.
Ingredients
To craft a water breathing potion, you need;
- Brewing stand
- 1 water bottle
- 1 nether wart
- 1 puffer fish
- Blaze powder
To craft a water bottle, you need to do the following;
- Collect three blocks of sand.
- Smelt the sand in a furnace to get three blocks of glass.
- Place one block of glass in the first cell of the second row.
- Place one block of glass in the third cell of the second row.
- Place one block of glass in the second cell of the last row.
- Collect a glass bottle.
- Hold the bottle in your hand and click on a source block of water to fill it up.
Nether warts can be collected from the nether. They’re commonly found in strongholds.
Puffer fish come from the sea. Grab a fishing rod and go fishing.
To get blaze powder, you need to go to the Nether. Find a Stronghold. Kill a Blaze and collect the rod that it drops. Place the blaze rod in the crafting table and collect the blaze powder.

- Allow the process to finish and remove the water bottle.

Use water breathing potion in Minecraft
When you’re about to go under water, hold the potion in your hand and use the place action to drink it. You will be able to breath under water for three minutes. It won’t be enough time to explore a sunken ship which is why you should have more than one bottle of the potion on hand.
