Minecraft Frogs: How to find them

Minecraft adds updates and makes change to the game at a fairly fast pace. The Cliffs and Caves update is barely a few months old but the next major update has already rolled out to beta testers. This new update is called the Wild Update and it features new mobs and blocks.

One of the new mobs coming to Minecraft are Frogs. These are passive mobs and if you’re a member of the Minecraft Beta on Windows 10, or you’ve downloaded the Java Beta edition, you can check them out yourself. The frogs are not hostile to the player but they do seem to attack passive mobs (they eat goats but this currently stated as a bug and not a feature). They aren’t a crafting ingredient for any major item yet, but they can be used to create a Frog light.

Frog light in Minecraft

A Frog light is a light source block and as you can tell from the name, you need a frog to make it. In order to make a frog light, you need a frog and a magma cube.

Frogs spawn in swamp biomes. They tend to have one of three colors: ash white, orange, and green. The color depends on the temperature of the biome. Frogs will spawn in mobs of 1 or four. You can tame a frog by feeding it seagrass however, it is likely seagrass will be replaced with a different item by the time this mob rolls out to stable users.

The next thing you need is a magma cube. A Magma cube is a slime-like, hostile mob that is found in the nether. You need to catch one, and bring it to the overworld or you need to bring a frog to the nether.

The frog then needs to eat the magma cube and in this case, the more frogs you have the better. Once it eats the magma cube, you will get a frog light. A frog light is a light source and nothing more. It’s going to be one of the harder ones to craft given the items needed to craft it spawn in different dimensions.

Conclusion

Beta builds are available for both Minecraft Java and Minecraft Bedrock. Make sure you back up all your worlds before you access them from a beta build. On Bedrock, make sure you turn on the Wild Update experimental feature for a world from its settings. If you do not turn it on, you may not see all the new items in the beta. There is no ETA on when Frogs, and other new mobs will arrive on the stable build.
