How To Merge Videos On Windows 10

Video editing tools that are free, easy to learn, and feature rich are rare. Adobe Premiere Pro is feature rich but it’s subscription based and terribly complicated if all you need to do is merge videos and add a bit of background music. You can always use the discontinued Movie Maker app which is simple to use, free, and has reasonably good features or you can use the Photos app if you’re looking to merge videos on Windows 10.

SPOILER ALERT: Scroll down and watch the video tutorial at the end of this article.

The Photos app in Windows 10 has a basic editor which lets you edit photos. What few people know is that it can also edit videos. More specifically, you can merge videos with it.

Merge Videos In Photos

First, copy the videos you want to merge together into a folder. This isn’t necessary but it’s a good step to keep things organized.

Open the Photos app and go to the Folders tab. Click the Add a folder button, and add the folder you just created and moved the videos to. If you didn’t add the videos to a folder, add the location where the videos are saved. It takes a while for the new folder/location to show up. It’s buggy so it’s going to take time.

Once you’ve added the folder, click the Create button and select “Create video with music’.

Select the videos you want to merge together.

This will open the videos in the video editor. Give your project a name. Photos automatically creates a video but it will trim the source videos down which isn’t what you need. Delete the videos from the Storyboard section of the editor, and then add them again by dragging them down from the Project Library section.

Next, click the speaker button and mute the music. Click the Themes button, and select No Theme. Allow the changes to be applied. When you’re done, click the Export button to save the merged videos.

That’s about all you need to do to merge videos on Windows 10 without using a third-party app.

The video editor is basic but you can use it to trim the video after you’ve merged it, add custom music, 3D effects, text, and resize it. Its capabilities stop there. If you need a tool that comes with a few basic audio editing tools you’re going to have to go with Movie Maker or an open source solution that may be a bit more complicated to use.

  1. Hey can you help me out…actually I deleted the videos from story board and dragged them from project library but it still trimmed my video…I retried many times but it always trims my videos …I want my full videos to appear…what can I do??
please help me out…also thanks for the informative video

  2. I think a third-party tool will be easier to use, which can save me time and energy. Sometimes, looking for some professional tools is better. As for merging videos on Windows 10, I used Joyoshare Video Joiner for several times because it only provides 5 free opportunities to merge. But it is a really professional software.
