Minecraft has lots, and lots, of building blocks. You can use literally any type of wood and/or stone to construct a house. Wood and stone occur naturally and are the easiest to obtain. Wood is not as strong as stone and if you want to creeper-proof your base, you want to build it with material that has maximum blast-resistance.

Bricks are some of the best, most blast-resistance material you will find in Minecraft. They’re also aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, bricks do not occur naturally. They have to be crafted and require quite a bit of material to be gathered. Bricks can be used to constructed brick blocks. Brick blocks can be used to make homes in Minecraft.
What you need
In order to make bricks in Minecraft, you need;
- A furnace
- Fuel for the furnace (coal, wood, seaweed)
- Clay balls
Obtain clay balls
Clay balls are mined from clay blocks. Clay blocks occur around the shores of lakes. You can break a clay block with a shovel and it will yield clay balls. Clay balls are stackable in stacks of 16.
Visually, it may be hard to identify a clay block since it will almost always be under water but it has a grey-ish tint to it and its texture is different from that of sand.
How to make bricks in Minecraft
Once you have gathered your clay balls, you can start making bricks.
- Open the furnace.
- Place the fuel in the furnace.
- Place the clay balls in the smelting cell.
- Wait for the process to complete and you will get a brick.
- Repeat for as many bricks as you want to make.

If you want to make a brick block, you need four bricks.
- Open the crafting table.
- Place a brick in a 2×2 formation.
- Collect the brick block.
