How to keep notifications out of Action Center on Windows 10
The Action Center is where notifications you’ve dismissed pile up. It’s a good way to revisit them later when you have time. All apps that can show you notifications can, by default, stack them in the Action Center. If you find app notifications useful, but do not need them to stack in the Action Center, you can keep them out and you can do this on a per-app basis. Here’s how you can keep notifications out of Action Center.
Keep notifications out of Action center
Open the Settings app and go to the System group of settings. Select the Notification & apps tab, and scroll through the apps until you find the one you want to keep out of Action Center. Click it.
On the next screen, you will see an option called ‘Show notifications in action center’ and it’s going to be enabled. Disable it. It won’t remove the notifications that are already in the Action Center however, the notifications that arrive later, will not be shown there.
If you enable this option again i.e., allow the app’s notifications to be sent to the Action Center, only the notifications that arrive after you enable the option will appear there. The notifications that have already been delivered and subsequently dismissed, will not appear there.
The Action Center doesn’t exactly have a lot of space. Sending notifications to it is useful but that doesn’t mean every single app should be doing it. Chrome, for one, doesn’t need its notifications stacked in Action Center in most cases. You can probably audit your own list of apps and figure out which ones need to have notifications go to the Action Center, and which don’t.
For app notifications that you allow in the Action Center, you can choose how many notifications for it are visible. The minimum is 3 notifications, all others are collapsed under the app’s own title. There is no way to reduce it to just one notification which is a shame since that would allow more apps to be listed there. With three notifications per-app, there’s really only room for two apps to show notifications and then you have to scroll to see the others.
If, even after removing unimportant apps from Action Center, you still have one too many showing notifications in it, you can use the priority setting and have notifications from more important apps appear at the top. The priority is again set on a per-app basis. All apps, by default, are given ‘Normal’ priority.
