How To Join A Minecraft Server On Windows 10

You can play Minecraft all by yourself. The game has a self-contained objective that you can pursue if you aren’t a fan of multi-player games however, it does have an online-multiplayer ‘version’. Users can set up Minecaft servers, build online worlds, and play with hundreds of people. Minecraft servers are exceptionally popular though the servers for the Java version don’t let players using the Windows 10 UWP version of Minecraft join it. It’s yet another compatibility issue between the two versions.

That said, you can still join a Minecraft server from the UWP app. Here’s how.

Find Server

You need to first find a server to join. You can search online directories for active Minecraft servers. Look for ones that support the PE or Bedrock edition. When you find a server, check when it’s online. Some servers are online 24/7, others are not. A good directory ought to tell you if a server is currently online or not.

Once you find the server, you need to get its IP address. This might be a user-friendly address like a URL or it might be a series of numbers.

Join A Minecraft Server

Open Minecraft and click the Play button on the main screen. This will take you to the Worlds screen where you can pick a local world to play. This screen has two other tabs. Go to the Servers tab, and click the Add Server button.

On the Add Server screen, enter the IP address for the server in the IP address field. Enter a name for the server as well. This name doesn’t have to match the official name of the server. You can name it anything you want to help you remember which one it is. Click Play if you want to play right away, or click Save and the server will appear in the list of servers when you go to this tab from the Play screen.

When you play on the server, it connects to it and loads the world. The game play may have lag depending on the server speed and your own internet connection. This has nothing to do with the game and everything to do with connection speeds.

To leave/exit a server game, tap the Escape key and you’ll get the usual quit option. We should mention that since this is an online game, you can’t pause it and if you die, you die. Your items can be picked up by other players and your home can be raided as well.
