Windows 11 Home is just about enough for most users as it offers all the basic functionalities to aid your work life. However, if you’re a professional who wants to beef up their operating system’s capabilities, then the Pro variant of Windows 11 is the way to go.

Thankfully, unlike other Windows 11 variants such as Enterprise, you don’t need a clean Installation to get Windows 11 Pro on your PC. You can simply perform an upgrade using the two different methods that you’ll find in this guide.

Why Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro?

As deliberated earlier, Windows 11 Home is just about enough for most PC users, but given the more robust features the Pro variant comes with, any professional or enterprise user would fair better with it. Windows 11 Pro is the way to go if you need business-based functionalities and additional security features.

On Windows 11 Pro, you can join Microsoft Azure Active Directory for free, get windows Information protection, and get up to 2TB of RAM support, among many other benefits. Given this, upgrading to a Windows 11 Pro is a no-brainer.

Follow the guidelines below to Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.

How to Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro via Microsoft Store

Upgrading Windows 11 Home to Pro is a little more complicated than you’d imagine it to be. First, you need to have Windows Home installed with a valid license, or you’ll not be able to upgrade to Pro. Even more, the upgrade will cost you $100 as opposed to the $199 price when you’re doing a fresh installation of Windows 11 Pro.

Lastly, since Windows 11 is not directly listed on Microsoft Store, you’ll have to carry out the upgrade from the Settings app. Follow the steps below:

  • Press Windows key + I to launch Settings
  • Click System on the left pane of the Settings window and then click About on the right
  • On the About page, navigate to and click Product Key and Activation under Related Settings
  • Next, expand the Upgrade Your Edition of Windows and click the Open Store button next to Upgrade in the Microsoft App

Ensure that you’re connected to a WiFi at this point, and you should see a page that highlights Windows 11 Pro key features over Home. The price you see on this page might change depending on your region and currency.

You need to click the Buy button at the bottom to begin the Upgrade process. Simply follow the prompts afterward to complete it.

How to Upgrade with Product Key

This method is cost-efficient as it allows you to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro without paying a dime. All you have to do is get the product key for Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8/8.1 Pro and then revoke the license, thus allowing you to use the same key for Windows 11 Pro.

To use this method,

  • Press Windows key + I to launch Settings
  • Click the System tab on the left pane and the Activation on the right
  • On the next page, click Change under Upgrade Your Edition of Windows
  • Next, grant the administrator permission if asked to run the Windows Activation tool
  • Type or paste your product key in the provided text box and click Next
  • Finally, click the Start button to begin the upgrade process

Final Notes

The methods above should help you upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows Home. However, if you ever need to roll back to Windows 11 Home, use the steps in Method 2 and type your Windows 11 Home product key back again.
