How to make a Brewing stand in Minecraft
You can make potions in Minecraft. Arguably, you don’t really need to use potions if you’re good with other weapons but without potions, you won’t be able to explore underwater structures. There are water breathing potions that you can take to explore sunken ships.
Brewing stand in Minecraft
A brewing stand requires items that have to be collected from the Nether. This means you need a Nether portal. You will also need to find the Nether fortress.
Find Nether fortress
To start gathering ingredients for a brewing stand, you need to first get to the Nether. To get to the Nether, you need a Nether portal. A Nether portal is crafted using Obsidian. Obsidian is crafted by pouring water on source blocks of lava. Obsidian can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe. It is activated with flint and steel. Flint and steel are crafted from flint and an iron ingot. Flint is obtained by breaking gravel blocks.
Once you’re in the Nether, look for the Nether fortress. It’s an in-game structure like Temples and villages. It’s a little hard to find given everything in the Nether is on fire and this will take up most of your time.
Get Blaze rods
The Nether has its own mobs; Ghasts, Piglins, Wither skeletons, etc. One of the mobs you’ll encounter in the Nether fortress is a Blaze. They shoot fire at the player. When you kill a Blaze, it drops a blaze rod. You only need one rod to craft a brewing stand but Blaze rods give you blaze powder which is essential for every potion that you brew.
Kill a Blaze, and obtain a rod.

The blaze rod is the hard part of crafting a brewing stand. The other ingredient you need is three blocks of stone. Any stone, including cobblestone will do the job.
- Open the Crafting table.
- Place the Blaze rod in the second cell of the second row.
- Place one stone block in each cell of the last row.
- Collect the brewing stand.
Conclusion
Brewing isn’t for a new player. Getting the Blaze rod alone may prove to be exhausting for you. Ideally, you should know your way around the Nether before you attempt to make a brewing stand or brew potions. As far as combat is concerned, potions are helpful but not always needed. Weapons and armour is often enough. If you plan on fighting a raid, potions may be helpful but your usual cave dwelling mobs can be killed with a sword or with arrows.
