How to hide an Instagram post
Instagram doesn’t allow users to post photos with a custom audience. You can make your account private if you so choose but all your friends will still be able to see everything you post. If you want to share something with a custom audience, you can post it as a story to the Custom friends list.
Hide Instagram post
An Instagram’s post is visible to everyone however, you have the option to hide. Once a post is hidden;
- No one, regardless if they are your friend or not, can see it.
- You can still revisit the post anytime you want.
- All comments and likes remain on the post.
- The post itself is still on Instagram under your account i.e., your photo has not been deleted.
How to hide an Instagram post
Hiding an Instagram post is easy, and since this isn’t permanent, you can easily unhide a post whenever you feel like it.
- Open the Instagram app on your phone
- Go to your profile tab.
- Tap on the post that you want to hide.
- Tap the three dots button at the top right of the post.
- Select Archive from the menu.
- The post will be removed from your timeline.
Unhide Instagram post
If at any point you’d like to add the post back to your timeline, you can unhide or unarchive it. To unhide an Instagram post, follow the steps below.
- Open the Instagram app on your phone.
- Go to your profile tab.
- Tap the hamburger button at the top right.
- From the menu, select Archive.
- Tap the dropdown at the top of the screen and select Posts archive.
- Tap the three dots button at the top right of the post.
- Select Show on profile.
- The post will reappear on your timeline.
When a post is restored to your timeline from the archives, it returns to its original place i.e., on the same date as it was originally posted. It is not posted as a new item to your account.
Conclusion
Instagram has a cross-posting feature where you can post a photo to Facebook the same time you post it to your Instagram profile. The Instagram archive feature is not connected to your Facebook account. If you hide an Instagram post but have posted the same photo on Facebook, the Facebook post will remain visible. If you want to hide the Facebook post, you will have to go to your Facebook account to do so.
