How to fix GTA Online stuck on loading screen

An online game lets you play with anyone, anywhere. You don’t necessarily have to be in the same room with your friends if you want to play together. While online games make it easier to play remotely with friends, they rely on a stable and fast internet connection to work. If a game is unable to connect to its server, you can’t play it.

Fix GTA Online stuck on loading screen

GTA Online is a popular gaming title. It’s free provided you’ve bought GTA 5 on your PC, you have a PlayStation Plus membership, or you have an Xbox live membership.

If you’re trying to play GTA Online, but the game is stuck on the loading screen, run through these basic c checks.

  • If you’re playing on Steam, make sure the Steam client is up to date. Quit and relaunch it and it will check for and install updates.
  • If you’ve bought the game on Epic Games, make sure the game and the Epic Games client are both update to date.
  • Make sure your internet connection is stable.
  • If you’re using a VPN, try disconnecting it and then connecting to the game.

If all the above check out, but you’re still unable to play GTA Online, try the fixes below.

1. Restart the router

Networking problems can often be traced to the router. Restart it to see if that fixes the problem.

  1. Press and hold the power button on your router for 5-10 seconds.
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait 10-15 seconds.
  4. Press the power button to power the route on.
  5. Wait for the lights on the router to stabilize.
  6. Connect to GTA Online.

2. Check for character specific problem

The loading problem may be specific to a particular character. Try switching to different character and load the game. For many users, this has helped resolve the problem.

3. Check game status

GTA Online is, as the name states, an online game. If the game’s servers are down, you won’t be able to connect to it. This is a problem on the game’s side so you can’t do anything to fix it. You will have to wait for Rockstar Games to resolve.

4. Reset the router

Try resetting the router. This is different from a simple restart and will return the router to its factory settings.

  1. Locate the Reset button on the router.
  2. Press the button using a tool like the SIM key that comes with phones.
  3. Press the button for 10-15 seconds and then release it.
  4. Wait for the lights to stabilize on the router.
  5. Connect to the network and run GTA Online.

Conclusion

Connection errors are fairly common with online games. They may be a result of your ISP being overloaded, or the game’s servers may be overwhelmed with too many players. Normally, games like GTA have the capacity to host thousands of players but there is always a cap on the maximum capacity. If all else fails, wait a while to play.
