How To Fix Missing Bluetooth Option In Windows 10

Bluetooth was used to connect keyboards or headphones and speakers in the past. Now, Bluetooth is used to connect all sorts of devices. In Windows 10, you can pair headphones, speakers, phones, pens, and more with your desktop. The Dynamic Lock feature in Windows 10 depends on Bluetooth in order to work. It’s pretty easy to connect a Bluetooth device in Windows 10 unless of course the option to turn it On simply isn’t there. It’s rare but the missing Bluetooth option in Windows 10 has been plaguing users for a while now. Here are a few ways to fix it.

The Bluetooth button can be found in the Settings app. Go to Devices>Bluetooth. If it’s not there, try the solutions listed below.

Check BIOS

If you’ve just bought a brand new laptop that you know comes with Bluetooth, check the BIOS to see if it has been disabled by default. The BIOS of a laptop or desktop differ by manufacturer and model so we can’t point to where you should look but check under any hardware configurations and radio switches. If it is indeed disabled, enable it and boot to your desktop. Windows 10 will likely need to install drivers. Allow it to and then check to see if the missing Bluetooth option has been fixed.

Update or Rollback Drivers

If the Bluetooth option has suddenly disappeared after a major Windows 10 update e.g. you updated from Creators Update to Fall Creators Update, it’s possible the generic Bluetooth drivers that Windows 10 uses are no longer compatible with your hardware. This is likely to happen if you have an exceptionally old laptop.

Open Device manager and expand Bluetooth device. Doble-click your Bluetooth device to go to its properties. Go to the Driver tab. Click the Rollback button, if it’s active. If it isn’t active, it means there is no previous version to go back to. In this case, check for an update.

If Windows is unable to find an update, proceed to the next solution below.

Uninstall And Reinstall Bluetooth Devices

Open Device Manager, expand Bluetooth device, right-click your Bluetooth device and select ‘Uninstall device’. Repeat for all other Bluetooth devices that are listed under Bluetooth. Restart your system and it will search for and install new drivers when it boots.

Bluetooth Drivers From Manufacturer

It’s possible that your laptop/desktop manufacturer has released Bluetooth drivers that are compatible with the latest version of Windows 10. The generic drivers that Windows 10 installs might not work but the ones your manufacturer has released might. Visit your manufacturer’s website and look for drivers for your PC. Install them and restart your system to fix the missing Bluetooth option in Windows 10.
