ASPX file

An ASPX file is created by a server that is running ASP.Net. This is basically a webpage but instead of using the HTML language. It is processed and translated to HTML when the file is read or loaded by a website in a modern web browser.

As far as opening an ASPX file goes, you will find it’s fairly easy to do. You do not need to set up a server, or install complicated apps to do the job.

1. Open ASPX Files – Web browser

An ASPX file is basically a document. The only reason you can’t open it is because of its extension. Unlike an HTML file that you can open with a text editor, you need a PDF viewer to open ASPX files.

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Go to the View tab.
  3. Enable the ‘Show extensions’ option.
  4. Navigate to the ASPX file and select it.
  5. Tap the F2 key.
  6. Change the ASPX to PDF.
  7. Confirm you want to change the format.
  8. Right-click the file and open it in a modern browser like Chrome.

2. Use web development tools

If converting an ASPX file to a PDF and opening it in a browser results in the file not displaying correctly, you can use a web development tool in its place. There are plenty of web development tools that you can use but if you’re looking for a free, easy-to-install and easy-to-setup tool, we strongly recommend using Notepad++.

  1. Download and install Notepad++.
  2. Open File Explorer and navigate to the ASPX file.
  3. Right-click the file and select Open with from the context menu.
  4. Select Notepad++ to open the file.

3. Online web development tools

Web apps for web development allow you to open ASPX files in your browser. You do not have to convert them to PDF. Instead, the web app is able to read the APSX file as it is. You don’t have to install additional apps as long as you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox installed on your system.

Dedicated ASPX file viewers exist but they’re not the most impressive online apps you’ll find. Try using File Pro Info’s ASPX viewer to open an ASPX file in your browser.

Conclusion

If you have Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your system, it is the best app to use to view an ASPX file. Of course, Visual Studio will also install a lot of other things on your system to help with development, If you’re not a developer, installing Visual Studio to view an ASPX file is overkill. Try one of the options we’ve listed instead for a much simpler approach.
