How to Fix AMD Catalyst Control Center Won’t Open in Windows 10
The AMD Catalyst Control Center is an almost-essential app that is installed if your system has an AMD graphics card. The chip may be the onboard graphics card or it may be the GPU but the app will be installed when the latest graphics driver is installed.
The AMD Catalyst Control Center allows you to customize how the GPU works and how it handles certain apps. You can also use it to customize the color profile of your monitor, among other things.
Fix AMD Catalyst Control Center won’t open
The AMD Catalyst Control Center is a complex app but it’s stable. If it isn’t installed automatically, you can manually install the app. You can access the AMD Catalyst Control Center by right-clicking on an empty area on the desktop. The context menu will list the AMD Catalyst Control Center and you click it to open it.

Run from install directory
The AMD Catalyst Control Center is an app and like any other app, it can be run from its install directory. The trick is knowing where the app is installed.
- Open File Explorer.
- Navigate to the following location(s).
C:\AMD C:\Program Files\AMD C:\Program Files (86)\AMD
- Run the EXE file. It may be in any one of the above locations so check them all.
Update graphics drivers
Try updating the graphics drivers. If the drivers aren’t up to date, the app might not open.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display Adapters.
- Right-click the AMD chip and select Update driver.
- Search online for drivers and install the ones that are available.
- Restart the system.
Install Windows 10 updates
If Windows 10 isn’t up to date, it can cause all sorts of problems such as apps not working correctly.
- Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
- Go to Update and Security.
- Select the Windows Update tab.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart the system.
End all AMD Catalyst Control Center processes
It’s possible you have one too many AMD Catalyst Control Center processes running. The app can normally only run one instance and multiple instances will prevent the app from running.
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager from the context menu.
- Select the AMD Catalyst Control Center process and click End Task at the bottom.
- Repeat for all AMD Catalyst Control Center processes.
- Open the AMD Catalyst Control Center.
Run SFC scan
The AMD Catalyst Control Center may have been corrupted or there may be something wrong with Windows 10 that’s preventing the app from running.
- Open Command Prompt with admin rights.
- Run this command: sfc /scannow.
- Allow the command to run and repair files.
- Restart the system and open AMD Catalyst Control Center.
Uninstall and reinstall AMD Catalyst Control Center
The AMD Catalyst Control Center may be corrupt. This is an easy problem to fix since the app can be downloaded directly from the AMD website.
- Open Control Panel.
- Go to Programs>Uninstall a program.
- Select AMD Catalyst Control Center.
- Click the Change button at the top.
- Click Next and select the Uninstall option.
- Restart the system after the app has been uninstalled.
- Download the AMD Catalyst Control Center from the official AMD website and install it.
