Microsoft Teams Browser Version Isn’t Supported [FIXED]

Online conferencing tools don’t necessarily correlate to tools that will work in your browser. An online tool is just a tool that needs an internet connection to work. Some online conferencing tools work only with a dedicated desktop app but more popular solutions like Microsoft Teams have a web version that will work in your browser so no other apps need to be installed.

Microsoft Teams will work in most modern browsers. You can open a meeting link in the browser, or go straight to the online web version, sign in with your account, and you’re good to go.

The web version doesn’t need to be set up if you already have a browser installed — and everyone does.

But like with all things Microsoft, sometimes things just won’t work and you get an error message saying ‘Your browser version isn’t supported‘.

Microsoft Teams browser version is not supported

Here’s how to fix it.

Microsoft Teams browser version is not supported

1. Use the suggested browser

When you see the “Browser version is not supported” message, it’s accompanied by a list of browsers that Microsoft Teams works in. Your browser may be a modern one e.g., Opera, Vivaldi, or Tor, but Microsoft Teams may not make a point of adding support for it and not all features may work. Try using;

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Edge
  • Safari

2. Update the browser

If your browser is a supported browser, but you still see the ‘Browser version is not supported’ message, you may need to update it.

Chrome

To update Chrome;

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the more options (three dots) button at the top right.
  3. Select Help>About Chrome.
  4. Chrome will check for, download, and install updates.
  5. Restart Chrome.

Firefox

To update Firefox;

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the hamburger icon at the top right.
  3. Click the question mark button.
  4. Select About Firefox.
  5. The browser will check for, download, and install any available updates.
  6. Restart Firefox.

Edge

To update Edge;

  1. Open Edge.
  2. Click the more options (three dots) button at the top right.
  3. Go to Help & feedback>About Microsoft Edge.
  4. Edge will check for updates, and install them.
  5. Restart Edge.

3. Try using the desktop or mobile app

When you see the ‘Browser version is not supported’ message, it’s accompanied by the suggestion that you use the desktop app. Try taking this advice. Download the Microsoft Teams desktop app. It’s available for both Windows 10 and macOS.

If you see this error on a mobile browser, your best option is to use the official Microsoft Teams mobile app for your phone. Microsoft Teams web works in modern browsers but Chrome and Chrome mobile are very different. They won’t offer the same experience.

Conclusion

Microsoft Teams’ web version is the go-to solution when you run into trouble with the desktop app. Generally, the web version doesn’t give users any trouble. As long as you’re using the latest version of a supported browser, you’ll be able to use it without running into any errors.
