How to set up NordPass password manager on Linux
NordPass is a new password management system from the people behind NordVPN. It’s incredibly easy to use and makes it so that you can manage and store your passwords in a secure vault.
In this guide, we’ll go over how to set up the NordPass app, how to set up your passwords, and how to integrate NordPass with your web browser.
Step 1 – Installing the NordPass app on Linux
To use NordPass on Linux, you must install the NordPass app. There are two ways to get the NordPass program working on your Linux PC. The first way to install it is via the Snap store. The Snap release of NordPass is officially endorsed by NordPass.com, and when you click on the “Download” button for Linux, you’ll be taken to the Snap page. The other way to install NordPass on Linux is through Flatpak.
In this guide, we will go over both ways of installing the NordPass app on Linux. To start the installation process, open up a terminal window by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T or Ctrl + Shift + T on the keyboard. Then, follow the command-line installation instructions outlined below that corresponds with the installation method you prefer.
Snap package
To install NordPass via Snap on Linux, you will need to enable the Snapd runtime on your PC. To enable Snapd, follow our guide to install the Snapd runtime system. Once the runtime is up and running, use the snap install command below to get the latest release of NordPass working on your computer.
sudo snap install nordpass
Alternatively, if you prefer to install Snaps via the GUI, head over to the NordPass page on Snapcraft.io, and click on the green “Install” button. It should open up in the GUI app installer on your Linux PC.
Flatpak
Those that are not fans of Snap need not worry. It is possible to get the latest NordPass working via the Flathub app store. To start the installation, ensure you have the “Flatpak” package installed on your system. To get Flatpak up and running, follow our guide on the subject.
After setting up the Flatpak package on your computer, you will need to subscribe to the Flathub app store using the following command in a terminal window.
Note: the NordPass Flatpak app should work pretty well in most instances. However, be warned that you may notice issues importing passwords via CSV on certain Linux operating systems, due to how Flatpak works. Only use the Flatpak release if you can’t use the Snap one!

Once the Flathub app store is set up on your computer, enter the flatpak install on your computer in the terminal window to install the latest release of NordPass.
flatpak install flathub com.nordpass.NordPass
Step 2 – Setting up the NordPass browser extension
Installing the NordPass application is the first step to getting the service working on your Linux PC. However, just setting up the app alone isn’t enough. You must also install the NordPass browser extension.
NordPass has browser extensions for various Linux browsers. These browsers are Firefox, Chrome, Vivaldi, Brave, and Opera. Click on one of the links in the list below to get the browser extension installed on your favorite browser.
After installing the NordPass browser extension, click on the NordPass icon. Upon clicking it, you will see a page that says “Get NordPass desktop app.” Move on to the next section of this guide.
Step 3 – Setting up NordPass on Linux
Open up the NordPass application. Then, enter your login information to access the app. If you do not have an account, head over to NordPass.com to create a new account.
After logging in to your NordPass account, you’ll see a message in the app that says, “Your NordPass is ready!” Below that, a message says, “Import your passwords or add items to start organizing your vault.” Find the green “Import Items” button, and click on it with the mouse.
Upon clicking on the “Import Items” button, you will see many different password importing options. To import your passwords from Firefox, Opera, Chrome, or Brave, click on their icons. Or, if you use a different password manager (like BitWarden, 1Password, DashLane, LastPass, etc.), click on its icon.
When you click on your password import icon, whether it’s a browser icon or an alternative password manager, you will see a similar message. The message will instruct you to export your existing passwords as a CSV file. Follow the instructions to export your passwords to a file.
Once your passwords have been imported to NordPass, your information is all set up! Go to your browser and click on the NordPass icon to access your passwords. You can also access your logins via the NordPass desktop app!
