Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG developed and published by Capcom. It is the fifth entry in the franchise. It was released in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. However, there are currently no plans for an official Linux release.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to get Monster Hunter: World up and running on Linux.
Getting Monster Hunter: World working
Monster Hunter: World only works on Linux with Steam Play’s help, a feature that comes with the Linux release of Steam. For this reason, we must demonstrate how to install the Steam app for Linux.
Install Steam
To start the installation of Steam for Linux, open up a terminal window by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T or by searching for “Terminal” in your app menu. Once the terminal window is open, follow along with the Steam installation instructions outlined below that corresponds with the Linux OS you currently use.
Ubuntu
On Ubuntu, the easiest way to install the Steam app is with the Apt package manager tool. Using the command below, install Steam.
sudo apt install steam
Debian
In Debian, the fastest way to get the latest version of Steam working is by downloading the DEB package directly from Valve, on the internet. This is because the version of Steam provided in the Debian Linux repos is tedious to install.
To download the Steam DEB package via the internet, use the following wget command down below.
wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steam.deb
When the downloading process is complete, you will have saved the Steam DEB package to your Debian Linux PC. Now, you must install it. To install it, make use of the following dpkg command in a terminal window.
sudo dpkg -i steam.deb
Following the installation of Steam in Debian, use the apt install -f command to correct any dependency issues that may arise.
sudo apt install -f
Arch Linux
On Arch Linux, it is possible to install the Steam app’s latest release by making use of the Pacman command in a terminal window.
sudo pacman -S steam
Fedora/OpenSUSE
On both Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux, it is possible to install Steam. However, the native instructions for setting up the app on these operating systems are tedious and not suited for beginner users. Instead, we highly suggest you follow the Flatpak instructions.
Flatpak
To install Steam on Linux as a Flatpak, you must start by installing the Flatpak runtime. To set up the Flatpak runtime, please follow along with our in-depth guide on how to set up Flatpak.
Once the Flatpak runtime is configured on your Linux PC, the next step is to set up the Flathub app store. To do that, execute the following flatpak remote-add command in a terminal window.
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
With the Flathub app store configured, install Steam on your Linux PC as a Flatpak by executing the following flatpak install command.
flatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam
