Before we begin
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is still in active development, and the official stable release doesn’t happen until April. However, it is still possible to use 22.04 LTS early. That being said, 22.04 LTS is in beta, so please report any bugs you encounter with the official troubleshooter app.
If you have any issues running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on your PC, be sure to update. 22.04 LTS is updated with patches and fixes every day while Ubuntu developers get it ready for the official release in April.
Downloading the 22.04 LTS Daily Build
If you wish to try out 22.04 LTS a month before release, you’ll need to download a Daily Build ISO file from the official Ubuntu releases website. Head over to the daily build site, and locate “jammy-desktop-amd64.iso”.
Select ” jammy-desktop-amd64.iso” to download it to your computer. The download process should take a few minutes, as the file is 3 GB in size. Alternatively, if you wish to download the latest Ubuntu with the terminal, run the following wget command.
wget https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/jammy-desktop-amd64.iso -O ~/Downloads/jammy-desktop-amd64.iso
Creating a Daily Build installer
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is downloaded. However, you won’t be able to install it onto your computer without creating a USB live installer. Here’s how to create one.
To start, head over to Etcher.io, download the latest release of Etcher, install it and launch it on your computer. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below to create your Ubuntu 22.04 LTS installer.
Step 1: Find the “Flash from file” button and click on it with the mouse. Then, browse for the “jammy-desktop-amd64.iso” ISO file.

Step 3: Find the “Flash!” button and click on it to create the Daily Build installer. The process should take a couple of minutes. Next, reboot your PC and log into the BIOS when the process is complete. Then, configure it to boot from USB.
Installing Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Upon booting Ubuntu 22.04 LTS from USB, the welcome screen will appear on the screen. Next, select the “Install Ubuntu” button to bring up the Ubuntu installer. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below to get 22.04 LTS working.
Step 1: Select your preferred keyboard in the “Keyboard layout” window. After that, click on the “Continue” button to move to the next page in the installer.

Step 3: On the “Installation type” page, choose the “Erase disk and install Ubuntu” option, and click on the “Install Now” button to continue. Alternatively, if you’re an expert, select the other options available.
Step 4: Ubuntu will ask you to select your timezone with the installation type chosen. Look at the time map and choose the timezone right for you. After choosing the timezone, click on the “Continue” button to move to the next page in the installer.
Step 5: Following the timezone selection, the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS installation tool will ask you to fill out your name, computer’s name, username, and password. Select the “Your name” box and write in your name to start.
Once you’ve filled out your name, find the “Your computer’s name” text box and write in your computer’s name. Unsure about what to put? Enter a name you wish your computer to be seen as on your local area network.
Finally, fill out your username in the “Pick a username” box and the password in the “Choose a password” box. When done, select the “Continue” button to move to the next page in the installer.
Step 6: Upon setting up your username, your computer’s name, and your password, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will begin installing. The installation process will take time, as Ubuntu is a bit big.
When the installation process is complete, you’ll see a message appear on the screen. This message says, “Installation is complete. You need to restart the computer to use the new installation.”
Unplug the USB flash drive, and reboot your computer. Once the system is rebooted, log back in. Once logged back in, you’ll be using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on your computer. Enjoy!
