How to play GreedFall on Linux
GreedFall is an action RPG developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive. The player explores a remote island in the game and fights off supernatural forces. Here’s how you can play GreedFall on your Linux PC.
Getting GreedFall working on Linux
GreedFall is a Windows game, but it can work on Linux if you use the Proton feature in Steam. To get it working with Proton, you will need to install the latest version of Steam for Linux. Thankfully, setting up Steam is easy on virtually all Linux operating systems.
Install Steam
To get the Steam app working on your Linux system, you must launch a terminal window. Open up a terminal window on the Linux desktop by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T on the keyboard. Or, search for “Terminal” in the app menu and launch it that way.
With the terminal window open, the installation of Steam can begin. Using the installation instructions down below, set up the latest version of the app on your Linux computer.
Ubuntu
To get Steam working on Ubuntu, you will need to use the following command in a terminal. Run the following apt install command below to get Steam.
sudo apt install steam
Debian
To get Steam working on Debian, you must download the DEB package to your computer. Using the wget download command, grab the Steam package.
wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steam.deb
Once the Steam DEB package is downloaded to your computer, the installation can begin. Using the dpkg command, set up the latest version of Steam on your computer.
sudo dpkg -i steam.deb
With the Steam app installed, you’ll need to correct any dependency issues during the installation process.
sudo apt-get install -f
Arch Linux
If you want to use Steam on Arch Linux, you must first set up the “multilib” software repository. To set up this repo, open up the /etc/pacman.conf file in your favorite text editor as root.
Once the file is open, locate the “mutlilib” line and remove the # symbol from in front. Be sure also to remove the # symbol from the lines directly below. Then, save the edits and run the pacman -Syy command.
sudo pacman -Syy
Finally, install the latest version of the Steam app on Arch Linux using the pacman -S command.
sudo pacman -S steam
Fedora/OpenSUSE
On Fedora and OpenSUSE, Steam is available through software repositories included out of the box. However, we suggest installing Steam as a Flatpak as that app version tends to work better on Suse and Fedora.
Flatpak
To install Steam on Linux as a Flatpak, you must install the Flatpak runtime on your computer. Set up the runtime on your computer by following our guide on the subject.
Once the Flatpak runtime is configured, you can install the Steam app. Using the two commands below, get the latest version of Steam working on your computer.
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam
