Fallout 4 Next Gen Update Announced for May 2024
On May 10th, 2024, the Bethesda Game Studios account on the X platform announced a new update for Fallout 4, which will be available on May 13th. The update will include “new options for graphics and performance settings, as well as further fixes and improvements.”, as said. Despite changes, however, many Fallout players complained as the Fallout 4 next-gen update in April brought several problems with itself. Hence, Bethesda tried to address these issues through the second update released on Monday, 13th May.
Fallout 4 is an action role-play game (RPG) situated within an open-world post-apocalyptic environment, surrounding the city of Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts region, commonly referred to as “The Commonwealth.”
What can players expect?
After the buggy version of the April update, players encountered several issues on their platform. From broken mod support to problems with UI in ultrawide screen mode for PC players or Quality mode bugs for Xbox players, the company quickly released the Fallout 4 next-gen update 2 to fix them.
The latest updates are as follows: 1.10.765 for Xbox Series S|X, 1.10.985 for PlayStation 5, and 1.10.984 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Bethesda stated that they have addressed some issues based on user feedback from the last update. However, many players are still unsatisfied as critical problems persist. PC players feel less focused on addressing issues specific to the PC version compared to the console platform. The ultrawide screen mode continues to be problematic on PC, causing the UI to stretch with no adjustment option. The main key features of the recent update include the following.
Controlling graphic/performance settings
The Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 have the capability to manage graphics and performance settings. Bethesda recommends utilizing the default settings.
Frame Rate Target
The new Frame Rate Target feature offers a choice of 30, 40, or 60 fps, but keep in mind that the 40 fps option is only compatible with a 120Hz display (only available for consoles).
Visual and Performance Prioritization
Two options have also been added for Visual and Performance prioritization. You can choose either option, but it is recommended that you select Performance if you want to stick to 60 fps. These settings can only be adjusted through the Main Menu, not while playing.

Due to the problems with the new updates, many users still suggest downgrading the current version to solve the newly raised issues, specifically those associated with mods.
Here, we have reviewed some users’ comments about bugs that have yet to be fixed in the latest update.
User comments
A Reddit user, “jumpyg1258” highlights the Xbox version bugs after the new update: “Bugs still not fixed that I’ve noticed on xbox:1) VATS completely broken,2) Can’t barter with vendors you’ve set in settlements 3) After getting out of power armor that highlights objects, you still have objects getting highlighted.”
Another PC user named tf2dove criticizes the lack of frame rate targeting for PCs: “Is frame rate targeting only for consoles? Kinda disappointing given that framerates >60 break the game. Was hoping this let me not have to constantly change my monitor’s refresh rate when playing FO4”.
