Timelines Brings Facebook’s New Timeline Feature To The iPad

Facebook was quite reluctant in bringing an iPad dedicated version of its mobile client on the grounds that the generic iOS version is sufficient for all users. When, a few weeks ago, the app was finally launched, it turned out to be nothing less than satisfactory. Though, there is always room for improvement, and Timelines for Facebook aims to fill it. Not only does the app provide you access to the Facebook’s new Timeline feature, it adds a little extra eye-candy to the social network, displaying a good-looking page-turn effect as you browse through your network. Of course, you will only be able to access the Timeline feature from within the app if you have it enabled on your Facebook account.

If you are not familiar with what Facebook’s Timeline is all about, don’t worry, you are not the only one. This new feature has only been rolled out for developers as of now, and thus, is not in common use currently. So what exactly is Timeline? Timeline can be considered as a way of seeing your Facebook history. It stores everything you have ever done on the social network, from signing up to last night’s friend request. Currently, Timelines for Facebook is the only client to bring this new feature of Facebook to the iPad.

Timeline is not the only feature offered by the app. It provides you with a whole new experience of using Facebook. The biggest change you will notice while using the app is the page-turn effect. Instead of navigating between pages like a website, the app is designed to make you feel like you are reading a book (emphasizing the timeline aspect of the app even more). You can keep viewing profiles of your friends, one after another, in alphabetical order simply by swooping across the screen. At start up, the app will show you a list of your friends in place of the usual homepage or wall displayed by the official Facebook app.

While some might argue that the app is pointless, or may be rendered pointless once the Timeline feature is officially rolled out, it does bring a pretty decent alternative to the usual Facebook experience on the iPad. Also, Timelines for Facebook is absolutely free, so it can’t hurt to give it a try. Download the app if you are among the few who really like Facebook’s timeline.
