Root Nook Tablet On Linux & Mac With One Click Script
Earlier we covered a guide on rooting the Nook Tablet with one click, but unfortunately, that was for Windows only and Linux and Mac users were left with some annoying string of commands. Not anymore! Thanks to XDA-Developers forum member Loglud, there is now an automated script called NARS (Nook Automated Rooting System) that will do all the dirty work for you on Linux and Mac, having your Nook Tablet in no time at all. Further credit also goes to xIndirect, analog and Indirect.
The script uses the zergRush exploit and installs the su Binary onto the device. It also goes on to install, busybox, Google Apps as well. That said, the script also gives you the ability to unroot your device, or if you wish, a complete factory reset of the device as well.
According to the developer, he will soon add the ability to install and configure third party keyboard apps, launchers, HomeCatcher, and the ability to un-bloat the device as well. So if you still have a Nook Tablet that you haven’t rooted as yet, just because you didn’t want to get caught up with the complex method on Linux or Mac, let’s get the device rooted right now!
Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.
Requirements:
- NARS.
- Yea, no, nothing else.
Instructions:
- To begin, download the NARS package from the link above and extract the contents.
- To begin, connect your device to the computer and open up the terminal.
- cd into the download directory and enter the following command:
sudo ./NARS.sh
Now sit back and let the script do its magic! If all goes well, your device will be rooted with Google Apps installed on it. For updates and queries, head over to the forum thread at XDA-Developers.
These instructions are incomplete, which is unfortunate, since the xda thread will be confusing for noobs.
Most of all, you have to install ADB first, which is not a simple task for most users.
whats the password?
it’s your computer’s password, if you have one.
Doesn’t work on Lubuntu 11.10 64bit. It doesn’t detect the Nook even though lsusb gives …
