Install Stable Overclock Kernel On HTC Verizon Thunderbolt

The HTC Verizon Thunderbolt is Verizon’s flagship phone right now along with the iPhone 4, and packs quite the punch with it’s powerful hardware. The CPU of the Thunderbolt like many other Android phones, can be overclocked through an Overclock enabled kernel. However, there are a lot of kernels out there for the Thunderbolt, but not many are stable. XDA-Developers forum member adrynalyne has put together 3 kernels that have been completely fine tuned and optimized for the Thunderbolt. For more on those kernels and how to flash them to your Thunderbolt, read on!

As said earlier, adrynalyne has put out 3 kernels, with slightly varying features.

• Version A, that is based on the stock clock, is very optimized and undervolted.
• Version B, that is overclocked to 1.4Ghz, is very optimized, slightly overvolted for 1.3Ghz and 1.4Ghz and undervolted otherwise.
• Version C, that is overclocked to 1.4Ghz, is very optimized, more overvolted for 1.3Ghz and 1.4Ghz and undervolted otherwise.

Now for those of you not looking forward to overclocking their Thunderbolt, Version A of the kernel is the way to go.

However if you’re looking forward to some overclocking, Version B or C is what you’re looking for. Version B will give you give you a better battery life compared to Version C, but a fewer devices will be able to hold up with lower voltage on the overclocked speeds.

Version C on the other hand, will run your phone on the overclocked speeds without crashes and all, but with a worsened battery life as compared to Version B.

Now that you see what the three version of the kernel actually do, take a look at the features these kernels have to offer:

• CFS CPU scheduler.
• BFQ I/O scheduler.
• Undervolted.
• Overclocked.
• SLQB slab allocator.
• Audio enhancements.
• Smartass, performance, conservative, powersave, ondemand(default) governors.
• Neon and cortex optimizations.
• Battery charging speed enhancements.
• Updated ashmem driver.
• GPU+ patch.
• Nfs support.
• Ext4 support.
• GPS enhancement.
• Various other little insignificant tweaks.
