Install Custom HTC Sense Gingerbread ROM on Nexus S
Being Google’s official Android developers phone, the Nexus S has run the likes of the beautiful MIUI and the swift and sleek CyanogenMod ROMs. What it had been missing out on all this time, was HTC’s Sense UI which is loved by many. If you own a Nexus S, XDA-Developers forum member apreichner has just released the only Sense-based ROM available for the Nexus S and it is one fine release! More on this brilliant ROM and how to install it after the jump.
Credits:
TeamGalaxySense: A lot of collaborative effort went into both of these ROMs.
raffyvito: Developer of the Galaxy S Sense port. Gave good advice on porting.
Ivanmmj: Helped teach me a lot of what I know about Android development.
dima_sk8er: Made some awesome splash images and the boot animation.
The ROM named NexusSense, when initially released, was slow and lacked most of the basic functions. However all that has changed since the second release. Based on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and using Sense 2.1, the updated version of this ROM shows no sign of lags at all now, in fact it was swift like anything when we tried it on our Nexus S.
Apart from that, essential features, such as WiFi, GPS, Sound, SMS / Phone and HW3D are functional. Camera / Camcorder is broken for now and while we’re at it, we came across another major issue. While we had access to the SD card from the phone, the phone failed to connect to the PC as a disk drive.
Cosmetically the ROM is like any other HTC Android 2.3.3 ROM, so don’t expect any fancy custom themed UI.
Now that you know what this ROM is all about, let’s get on with the installation of this ROM!
