How To Root Samsung Captivate On Gingerbread With a Custom Kernel

captivate-gingerbread-rootIf you have recently updated your Captivate to the KF1 firmware by Samsung based on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and want to root your device, there is a solution, a very easy one for that matter. The solution is kernel based, developed by XDA-Developers forum member designgears. So read on for more on the kernel and how to install it.

The kernel, is a pretty basic one for now as per the developer but gets you the much needed root with no issues as well, so missing out on some fancy features isn’t all that bad. Additionally you have init.d and furthermore, the kernel is insecure hence running adb as root.

  1.   Same….lost my wifi.  Did a complete factory reset. loaded all the upgrade thru Gingerbread and still NO Wifi.  BEWARE of using this!

  2. Samsung updates Froyo to Gingerbread 2.3.5. In fairness these instructions pertains to 2.3.3.  If you follow this procedure you LOOSE your wifi!
    BEWARE!

  3. Yup, same thing. I am so dumb. I went buck wild and downloaded all kinds of apps. Took all weekend to narrow it down to the root kernel.

I loaded 2.2 and that fixed the wifi. I loaded Gingerbread, the wifi was still operational. I loaded said kernel, the wifi was NFG.

  4. I’m having the same trouble with Wi-Fi not turning on.  Wi-Fi keeps resetting, you turn it on, and as soon as it scans, it turns off by itself.
    Any resolutions??  Please!

  5. Wifi won’t turn on after rooting using this method.  Is there a way to unroot such that wifi will work again?
