There are two different methods to insert a worksheet in Excel from another workbook. These are:

Method 1

  • Open all the workbooks necessary for this worksheet copy. These should be the source workbook containing the sheet you want to insert and the target workbook where you will move it.
  • First of all, go to the source workbook and open the sheet you want to insert.
  • At the bottom, you will see all the sheets of the workbook listed and the current sheet selected. Right-click on the tab and choose the Move Or Copy option from the menu.
  • Next, you will get a list of target workbooks under the To book option. Select your workbook where you want to insert it. You can also select the placement of the newly inserted sheet.
  • By default, Excel moves the sheet instead of copying it. So, if you want to insert the sheet while keeping a copy to its original workbook, you need to check mark the box Create a copy.
  • Finally, click on OK and Excel will insert the worksheet in no time.

Method 2

  • Open both the required worksheets and go to any one of them. Select the View tab and click on the option View Side By Side located in the Window group.
  • Both Excel files or workbooks will appear on the screen horizontally.
  • Put your cursor on the tab of your chosen worksheet and drag it to the destination workbook. If you have only one sheet in the source file, this method will not work and you need to apply Method 1.
  • To copy the sheet instead of moving it, you have to press down the Ctrl key while dragging.
