1. Add from Symbol Section

  • Open the MS Excel file where you want to add bullet points.
  • Select the cell where bullet points are needed.
  • Select the Insert tab from the menu bar and choose Symbol.
  • When a dialog box appears, type 2022 in the Character code box.
  • Click on Insert and Close the window.

Note: 2022 will get you the standard bullet point. To try other bullet styles, try typing these codes in the box: 25CF, 25E6, 25CB, or 25CC.

2. Use Keyboard Shortcut

People with the numeric keypad on the keyboard can try these steps:

  • Select the cell where the bullet is needed.
  • Get into the Edit mode by pressing F2 or double-clicking on the cell.
  • Press the ALT key, and while holding it, press 7 or 9 to get the bullet.
  • 7 and 9 will get you different styles of bullets so use the one you like most.
  • To apply it multiple times, you can copy and paste the bullet, just like any other character.

Those without a numeric keyboard can activate the NumLock and then perform the above steps. Or they can try pressing ALT+FUNCTION+7 or 9.

3. Copy From Word

If you already have a bulleted list in Microsoft Word or any other word processor application, you can copy that to Excel, including the bullet points.

  • Select the bulleted list in Word.
  • Press Ctrl and C together to copy the selected section.
  • Click on the Excel cell from where you want to paste the bullet list and press Ctrl+V.
  • To put all the bullet entries in a single cell, you need to double-click on that cell before pressing Ctrl+V.

4. Use Formula

The CHAR function is another way to insert bullet points in Excel. When you enter =CHAR(149) in Excel, you will notice an automatic conversion to bullet point.

If you already have a list of items in the excel sheet and want to make a bulleted list out of that, this is the best method. To put bullet points in multiple cells using this method, use the following steps:

  • Select all the necessary cells.
  • Type =CHAR(149) in the formula bar.
  • Press Ctrl+Enter to apply the formula to all the selected cells.
