What Does TFTI Mean? Learn its Meaning and Usage in Messaging
The use of abbreviations made its way from the ancient Greek medieval manuscript into modern means of communication in the 20th century and has taken many confusing and hilarious forms.
You might’ve come across TFTI either in a group chat or direct message and wondered what it means. Just like every other abbreviation, it is the short form of the phrase and can either mean, Thanks For The Invite or Thanks For The Information, depending on the event for which it is used. This further establishes the role of context in meaning, as I have explained in a previous post where I talked about LMK’s meaning and usage.
TFTI can be used instead of writing the sentence in full to avoid bulky messages. It can be written both in uppercase and lowercase as it conveys the same message to the recipient(s).
When To Use TFTI
TFTI is used to show appreciation for an invite, even if you might not be present for the event or for any information. As nice as the meaning sounds, it can be sarcastic and manipulative. You can say “thanks for the invite” to show disapproval in a polite yet sarcastic way when you find out you were exempted from a formal or informal occasion or event you were supposed to be in or to find out if the event was held without your knowledge. The feeling of being left out on things, especially in a circle you thought you belonged to, has been associated with anxiety and fear of abandonment.
You can also use thanks for the information in a sarcastic way when given a piece of unnecessary information, one with little or no benefit to you.
How To Use TFTI
Most people get confused when using abbreviations in a sentence as it sometimes doesn’t make sense, especially when reading the sentence out loud. Well, give yourself a break because that’s the beauty of it; it doesn’t have to.
