Where to watch The Last of Us TV series

How to watch the Last of Us if it’s not available in your country
If you’re not in the U.S. or in the other countries in this list but still want to watch The Last of Us, you have two options: either you wait till the show comes to your country somehow or you can use a VPN. Virtual private networks are handy tools that can reroute your connection, giving you a different IP address — the set of numbers that is your online address, linked to your physical location — and make it appear like you’re somewhere else.
That’s a bit abstract, so let’s use The Last of Us as an example of how this works. Say you’re in Canada and want to see the adventures of Joel and Ellie. Normally this wouldn’t be possible, but all you need to do is sign up to a VPN service — we have some recommendations below — connect to a location in the United States, sign up to HBO Max and you’re good to go. It’s a matter of a few clicks.
That said, not every VPN does an equally good job, some are better than others at getting through to streaming services. This is because most of them, HBO and Sky included, have set up VPN detection systems. As a result, most lower-tier VPNs won’t get through. That said, our three picks have a pretty good track record, let’s take a look at them.
NordVPN
First up is NordVPN, a very easy-to-use service with a friendly interface and some great streaming servers in both the U.S. and UK. Whichever country you prefer connecting to, NordVPN will get you here. We list NordVPN first here because it has a lot of servers to choose from: thing is, not all servers will work with HBO Max or Sky Atlantic, so you sometimes need to try different locations within the U.S. or UK before it works.
Other reasons to like NordVPN are its quick and easy setup, which we talk about in our NordVPN review, as well as its attractive pricing for first-time customers. For the first two years, for example, you pay only $89, which is pretty good, but mind that renewing your subscription will be a lot more expensive! Overall, we think NordVPN is a great choice for anybody that wants to watch The Last of Us.
ExpressVPN
Our second pick is ExpressVPN, which has a more streamlined interface with just one button that switches it on and off, plus a server selection screen. If you like your apps a bit more minimalist, ExpressVPN is a great choice. It’s also great for streaming as it’s very good at getting past blocks like those set up by HBO Max and Sky Atlantic; you’ll be watching The Last of Us in no time.
However, there’s a downside to ExpressVPN: its price. ExpressVPN costs $100 per year, with no discounts for first-time signups except that they get an extra three months for free. This makes ExpressVPN the uneconomical choice, something we discuss in our ExpressVPN review. Still, you get an awful lot of VPN for that, so it’s worth every penny.
Surfshark
Surfshark is our last pick, mainly because it’s a solid streaming VPN but does come with some quirks, all of which you can read about in our Surfshark review. That said, it’s a solid pick if you want to do some streaming and watch The Last of Us from abroad. Servers are good for streaming, and there’s plenty to pick from in both the UK and the U.S.
The interface is pretty straightforward, making Surfshark great for people new to VPNs and selecting and switching servers is easy thanks to the well laid-out menu. However, it shares a downside with NordVPN, which has you pay just under $70 for the first year, but nearly double that for the second. You may only want to sign up once when using Surfshark.
All three of these VPNs are reliable picks for anybody that wants to watch the Last of Us as it releases. There’s no better way than to see this video game come to screen, so make sure to check them out.
