Stars: Julian Brave NoiseCat, Ed Archie Noisecat, Charlene Belleau
Director: Emily Kassie, Julian Brave Noisecat
Release Date: December 9, 2024
This National Geographic film is coming to Disney+ and it is part documentary, part cinematic tribute to the Native North Americans whose bodies were discovered in 2021 in Canada. These bodies were found in unmarked graves on the grounds of an old Native residential, segregated boarding school that was run by the Catholic Church in Canada. Abuse, injustice, forced conformity, and an erasure of culture were all inflicted on the Indigenous people of the time. As more of these abuses are brought to light, the destructive practices of the past are finally being exposed, giving voices both to the dead and the present day communities still affected by these traumas. It is an important film that reminds us that the atrocities of the past were not so long ago.
Blink
IMDb: 7.5/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 87% on Tomatometer
Stars: Édith Lemay, Sébastien Pelletier, Mia Pelletier
Director: Daniel Roher, Edmund Stenson
Release Date: December 17, 2024
Another National Geographic documentary, this film follows the Pelletier’s, a family of six. Sadly, three out of the four children have been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, which is a rare condition that will eventually cause them to be permanently blind and currently has no treatment or prevention. Knowing this, the family embarks on an important world-traveling trip so the children can see as much beauty and wonder around them as possible while they are still able. It’s a beautiful film about family, life, the stunning sights and experiences of the world, and living in the present as much as possible.
