Since Kodi isn’t available to install directly on Fire TV, you’ll need to do something called sideloading to get it up and running. Sideloading is completely safe, and arguably even endorsed by Amazon itself. You won’t need to do any hardware hacking or jailbreaking. Instead, sideloading is a simple process of installing third party apps using secondary resources. You can even sideload YouTube on Fire TV!

There are multiple ways to sideload Kodi on your Fire TV. All are free, and most are easy to do in just a few minutes’ time. We’ll cover some of the basics below, but it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the process before beginning. Installing multiple Kodi builds means sideloading Kodi multiple times, so the more you know, the easier it will be.

Space Constraints

Keep in mind that Fire Stick devices aren’t made for heavy sideloading action. You won’t have a lot of storage space to work with, and Kodi builds can take up a ton of room. Fire Sticks have 8 GB of internal storage, much of which is taken up by the operating system, cache storage, and Amazon’s default selection of apps. Installing Kodi isn’t difficult, but you’ll need a little time to get the job done right. Below are the easiest and most popular methods for getting Kodi onto your Fire TV. Follow the guidelines and you’ll be able to install multiple builds right away.

First, Turn on External Downloads

Fire TV has a built-in option that lets you sideload content. It’s disabled by default, so if you try installing out of the box you’ll get an error. Follow the steps below to enable sideloading and you can install Kodi and any number of other apps with ease.

1. Go to your Fire TV Stick’s settings page located at the top of the home menu.
2. Scroll right and choose Device
3. Move down to Developer Options
4. Set Apps from Unknown Sources to ON.
5. Accept the warning message about installing external apps.

Method 1 – DroidAdmin

DroidAdmin is a unique service that lets you create customized file download repositories from your PC and install them on any Android-powered device, including Fire TV and Fire Stick. This gives you an incredible amount of freedom while taking away most of the frustration involved in sideloading Fire Stick content.

Step 1 – Install DroidAdmin

DroidAdmin is available for free on Amazon’s appstore. To install it, simply go to your Fire TV, click the search icon, then start typing in the name. You can also send it to your device from the Amazon store on your PC web browser. You can run DroidAdmin right away, but you won’t get much use out of it. To download files you’ll need to type in a custom code, which we’ll create below.

Step 2 – Set Up DroidAdmin

To actually use DroidAdmin you’ll need to sit down at your PC and create your custom app store. Visit the DroidAdmin website and click the green “create code” button at the top. Enter an e-mail and password to set up an account.

Now that you’re logged in, let’s add some files. Click the green “create new configuration” button at the bottom of the screen. You’ll be taken to a new screen with a few empty boxes. Type in a name for the file you’re about to upload along with an optional description. Don’t just type in some random letters, you’ll need to actually reference this later on your Fire device.

Save your new configuration and the DroidAdmin website will kick you back to the dashboard. Look for the blue window with your configuration name, then click the green “create files” button.

Now it’s time to add the content. Fill in the name and description boxes with the Kodi build you want to add. Again, don’t skimp on the details, you’ll need this later. Next, add the direct download link to the build file. Don’t use URLs ending in HTML or PHP, and don’t use folder addresses, either. You’ll need to link directly to the build so that if you clicked the link the file would start downloading right away. Similarly, add a direct URL to a logo image file (optional, but nice), then click save to add the build to the list.

A good optional step for future proofing your DroidAdmin configuration is to download the build files you plan on using and upload them to a service like Dropbox or Google Drive and linking directly from there. Doing this ensures your custom app store will work even if the build changes location, which they often do.

Repeat the process above to add more builds to your DroidAdmin configuration. Add as many as you like, it only takes a second. At the very least you’ll need to do this for the builds you plan on installing on your Fire TV Stick.

Step 3 – Installing the Builds

Once DroidAdmin is set up, the easy part begins. First, take note of the code listed on the configuration you created. It should be eight digits long, something like this: 40316879. Take that code and go to your Fire Stick. Launch DroidAdmin and enter the code in the box. After a moment you’ll see the files you added in the previous step. Now all you have to do is select the Kodi build you want to add, click your remote and start the download.

DroidAdmin will launch the installer each time a download completes. Add the builds you want to use one by one, and when you’re done, simply exit back to the Fire Stick’s main menu. You should see your custom Kodi builds ready and waiting!

Method 2 – Downloader App

The free Downloader app is a dead-simple method of installing content directly to your Fire TV from its own interface. You’ll need to do some typing to get it to work, which can be a pain with a remote on a software keyboard. It’s easy to use, though, and makes adding multiple Kodi builds as straightforward as possible.

1. Open the Amazon appstore on your Fire TV.
2. Search for Downloader and install the program.
3. While that installs, go to another device and locate the direct URL for the Kodi build you want to install. Make sure it ends with .apk, otherwise it won’t work.
4. Open Downloader and type in the URL.
5. Download the file through Downloader. Once complete, you can install it by selecting “Files” within the interface.
6. Repeat the process with each new build you want to add.
7. Sideloaded Kodi builds will appear on your Fire Stick’s main page, ready to stream.

Method 3 – adbLink

adbLink is a free third party program that runs on desktop environments like Windows, Mac, and Linux. It connects to your Fire TV over Wi-Fi and can be used to manage installed programs like Kodi using a mouse and keyboard. It can be a little daunting at first, but once you get adbLink configured, it’s by far the fastest way to sideload apps or install new Kodi builds.

1. On your Fire TV Stick go to Settings > About – Network and write down your device’s IP address.
2. On your PC visit the adbLink website and download the program for your operating system.
3. Run and install adbLink.
4. In adbLink click “new” next to the devices box and add your Fire TV Stick.
5. In the next window, type a unique description and the IP address of your Fire TV Stick.
6. On your PC, download the Kodi builds you want to add to your Fire Stick. Make sure they’re apk files, otherwise they won’t work.
7. In adbLink, click the “Install APK” button.
8. Navigate to the file you downloaded and click “ok”
9. adbLink will automatically install the app to your Fire TV device.
10. Install all the builds you want, then go to your Fire Stick and launch them from the main menu.

Finalizing the Builds

No matter which method you use above, most Kodi builds will need to finalize their setup before you can start streaming. This is a simple matter of launching the individual app, confirming any download messages that automatically open, then letting Kodi fetch its files. Be prepared to wait up to half an hour for the builds to finalize, as they can be large downloads.
