Mission: Impossible 8 Continues Filming as Release Date is Teased
The newest entry in the long-running Mission: Impossible series starring Tom Cruise is on the way and fans are excited as it seems like it will finally get a trailer alongside a firm release date very soon. The movie was originally called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, but last year, the movie dropped its subtitle, and until we have a confirmed new title, we’ll call it Mission: Impossible 8 as it’s the 8th installment of the film series. Dead Reckoning Part One was released in 2023 and underperformed at the box office. So, changing the title could be a decision to welcome more viewers who didn’t watch part 1.
The original plan was to shoot Dead Reckoning Part 1 and 2 back-to-back, but in early 2021, Paramount changed its plans. Finally, after many delays, Simon Pegg, the fan-favorite actor who plays Benji Dunn, shared some good news with the fans waiting patiently for the subsequent events after that interesting cliffhanger at the end of the previous movie.
Mission: Impossible 8 Trailer
“There will be a trailer for Mission: Impossible quite soon. Probably attached to a large release coming up.” Simon Pegg said in a live Q&A on his Instagram, reacting to a fan’s compliment about his character in the series. So, we can expect to see the first trailer for Mission: Impossible in the coming days or weeks.
As for the release date, last year, Paramount Pictures changed the release date for the newest Mission: Impossible film from June 28, 2024, to May 23, 2025. Since the movie has been delayed 4 times since the first release date of August 5, 2022, another delay is not out of the question. Maybe that’s why Simon Pegg mentioned “a large release coming up” and didn’t just say that the release date is still May 23, 2025. However, even if we are on the verge of another delay, it shouldn’t be a long delay. That’s because in the silence of other cast and crew members, once again, Simon Pegg provided more info about the production earlier this year:
“I just wrapped my last day on Mission Impossible and said farewell to everybody. And we started shooting the first part of this story in September 2020, and here we are in July 2024. What a journey has been. And what a fucking incredible spectacle this next film is going to be, I’m so excited for you to see it. But until then, Benji Dunn signing off.” He said on his Instagram.
So, we can guess that the movie is in the post-production phase, and the Mission: Impossible 8 release date is likely to remain in 2025 as planned by Paramount Pictures. So, it undoubtedly will be on the list of the top must-watch movies coming in 2025.
What to Expect for Mission: Impossible 8
Although there are no trailers for Mission: Impossible 8 yet, we know it’s a direct continuation of the previous film. Originally, these two movies were announced as a send-off to the popular character of Ethan Hunt, but later, Tom Cruise expressed his interest to make more Mission: Impossible movies. “Harrison Ford is a legend. I hope to be still going; I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him. I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.” He said in the Australian premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
So, it’s hard to believe that Mission: Impossible 8 will be the last time we’ll see Ethan Hunt. However, being a direct sequel to the previous movie, we know what to expect from the story. The big mystery of the last impossible mission for Ethan Hunt was the AI system called Entity. The US government and other organizations with malicious intent were looking for the two keys to gain access to AI and control its power. Ethan went rogue and tried to stop them. He managed to find the key with the help of Benji and Grace. At the end of Dead Reckoning Part One, he finds out that Entity is locked in a Russian submarine, Sevastopol.
So, in the upcoming film, we expect to see Ethan and his crew attempt to break into the submarine and destroy the AI system to keep the world safe. Most of the cast who survived the events of the previous film will be back, including Hayley Atwell as Grace, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Esai Morales as Gabriel, and Venessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis.
