How to Watch the Twilight Movies in Order

HOW TO WATCH THE TWILIGHT MOVIES IN ORDER

Twilight has been a beloved phenomena since the book series by Stephenie Meyer released in 2005. That’s eighteen years ago. Feel old yet? I do…but I digress. The first actual film came out in 2008, and the fan mania got an even firmer foothold as the Twilight films progressed. To this day the franchise holds strong. In 2020, Meyer released Midnight Sun, a retelling of the first book from Edward’s perspective, and is hard at work with more novels set in the same world.

Still, if you’re new to the fandom and wonder, “What is the order of the Twilight movies?” here’s how to watch the  Twilight movies in order of chronology as well as when they were released. We’ll even throw in where you can watch them. On that note, if you’re needing more movie watching tips, here’s how to watch Amazon Prime from anywhere in the world.

Twilight Movies in Order

Jacob and Bella

Here’s our “Twilight movies in order”, list. It’s fortunately pretty straightforward as the chronological order of the films matches the order they were released in.

1. The Twilight Saga: Twilight

Edward and Bella

Summary of movie:

In the first film of the franchise, teenager Bella Swan moves to the small Pacific Northwest town of Forks, Washington to live with her father once her mother gets remarried. She meets Edward Cullen, and realizes he’s different than anyone she’s ever met before. He’s gorgeous, mysterious, and has soul piercing qualities that throw her for a loop. What’s more, Bella discovers he’s a 108-year old vampire. He doesn’t age, glitters in the sun, can run fast and is incredibly strong. He lives with his vampire family, all of whom have decided to drink animal blood rather than human. Still, as the pair grows romantically attached, that temptation is getting harder to resist. Add to that the arrival of more classically violent vampires who determine a human/vampire pairing is not acceptable? Things start to get complicated.

By the way, if vamps aren’t your thing, at least give the soundtrack a listen!

2. The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Bella and Jacob

Summary Of Movie:

Bella and Edward are enjoying their relationship until a minor accident leads to a close call between the Cullens and Bella. Determining her human blood makes it too tempting to be around her, Edward and the Cullen family leave, devastating Bella in the process. She discovers that reckless behaviors make her feel close to the now absent Edward, so Bella finds herself taking risk after risk, growing unexpectedly close to her friend Jacob Black, throughout. Meanwhile, Jacob has secrets of his own, and all the while, Bella is still very much not out of danger.

So just a heads up, this is the movie that spawned the endless “Team Jacob or Team Edward?” question. If you adore love triangles, teen angst and shirtless men all over the place, you’ll probably have a splendid time.

3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Bella Jacob and Edward

Summary of movie:

Mysterious killings in Seattle form problems for the now graduating Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. They must uncover a conspiracy, realizing the killings are directly connected to Bella and the Cullens, putting Bella in danger once more. Meanwhile, they must also try to work together with the werewolf pack, and in doing so, Bella must make the final choice between Jacob and Edward.

This basically takes all the love triangle drama from New Moon and amplifies it. Tons.

4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

Bella and Edward at wedding

Summary of movie:

Bella and Edward get married and then go on their honeymoon, which ends up with her falling unexpectedly pregnant with a vampire baby. This immortal child puts Bella’s life in danger, as it is growing inhumanly fast within her, and its leaching her of strength and nutrients.

The werewolf pack is particularly concerned about what this child will become, thinking it could be a danger to the community, and they’re poised to kill it should it appear to be a threat. Meanwhile, the plan is to turn Bella into a vampire, once the baby is born, but she may not live long enough to survive the birth.

This is where watching the Twilight movies in order can be confusing to some as the number of books don’t match up with how many Twilight movies there are. There are only four books in the series, but there are actually five Twilight movies because the last book, Breaking Dawn, was split into two films.

It’s easy to get the first and second parts of these final films mixed up. If you need help keeping them straight, just remember, part one is all about the wedding and the baby. One amusing reason this movie is particularly noteworthy is because the absolutely fabulous wedding no doubt inspired thousands of people’s Pinterest boards, world-wide. The famous song, A Thousand Years, (written for the soundtrack), certainly featured in plenty of real-life weddings ever since!

5: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

Bella Edward, Jacob and Renesmee

Summary of movie:

The last of the Twilight Saga has Bella learning how to use her new Vampire abilities while also raising her rapidly growing daughter, Renesmee, with Edward. Having fatefully imprinted on the child, Jacob is now at peace with the vampire family and things look to finally be under control.

Until they’re not.

The Volturi, who enforce the laws of the vampire world, mistakenly think that Renesmee was the result of being turned, rather than being born a vampire. This is a violation punishable by death, which means they are coming after the Cullens. It will be a massive standoff between the Cullens and their allies, and the Volturi. Edward and Bella will do anything to protect their family.

Where are the Twilight movies streaming?

Bella and Edward

Streaming films is generally more convenient than actually renting them, (case in point, here’s how to watch Netflix like a pro), but that can also be limiting. If you want to stream the Twilight movies in order, your best bet is probably Peacock or Freevee. With Peacock, a lot of people already have a subscription and you can enjoy all five movies without ads. If you want to watch the Twilight saga for free, however, Freevee is an excellent choice, so long as you don’t mind the occasional interruption.

There are a few other places you can watch Twilight movies too, which we’ve already listed, but most people will find Peacock or Freevee their go-to in terms of low cost options. If you want more budget friendly movie options, here’s the best free movie streaming apps in 2024.
