Black Rabbit Netflix Release Date: What We Know Abou the Series So Far
Netflix’s upcoming limited series Black Rabbit is on the way with Jason Bateman and Jude Law as main characters.
It’s been almost two years since the announcement of the series, and we are closer than ever to finally seeing these two beloved actors on-screen together for the first time ever. Moreover, Bateman and Law will be among the show’s executive producers, and Bateman is set to direct two episodes.
In this article, we’ll speculate about the Black Rabbit Netflix release date season 1, explore the story’s premise, and go through the list of the cast and crew members.
Black Rabbit Release Date
Currently, Black Rabbit doesn’t have a release date, but we can expect that to change soon as the filming just wrapped up a few weeks ago in September. The events of the series happen in New York City. People were able to witness the filming in public since mid-April.
So, it took around 6 months of filming, and now Black Rabbit is in the post-production phase. Post-production is an important and quite long process, and based on other Netflix limited series, it can take a few months to one year. So we can expect the Black Rabbit Netflix release date season 1 at some point during 2025.
What is Black Rabbit About?
Black Rabbit is about the drama between two brothers. A short description released by the creators describes the overall story as follows:
“When the owner of a New York City hotspot (Law) allows his chaotic brother (Bateman) back in his life, he opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.”
Based on the pictures released from the set, Jason Bateman plays the chaotic brother Vince Friedken with a long beard and casual clothes. On the other hand, we have Jude Law as Jake Friedken with a clean-shaven face and formal dresses which create an interesting contrast between the two characters.
There are no more details about the story, but for sure it looks like a family drama that may take a dark turn, especially considering the name of the limited series.
Black Rabbit Cast and Crew
The Netflix Black Rabbit show has gathered an impressive cast and crew members. Jason Bateman is widely known for his roles in two popular but very different shows, Arrested Development and Ozark.
Jude Law is more known for his movie performances as Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes films and his more recent role as Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts films.
The dynamic of these two main characters for sure will be the main draw of the show but that is not all. In an exclusive report, Deadline Hollywood announced five more actors for the show, including:
- Chris Coy (HBO’s Treme)
- Troy Kotsur (CODA)
- Abbey Lee (Lovecraft Country)
- Odessa Young (Mothering Sunday)
Here are the rest of the cast as announced by Netflix:
- Cleopatra Coleman (Rebel Moon)
- Amaka Okafor (Bodies)
- Sope Dirisu (Gangs of London)
- Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession)
- Robin de Jesús (The Boys in the Band)
- Amir Malaklou (The Old Man)

- Forrest Weber (Law & Order)
- Francis Benhamou (Dear Edward)
- Gus Birney (Shining Vale)
- John Ales (American Fiction)
- Steve Witting (Killers of the Flower Moon)
- Morgan Spector (Homeland)
We know that the length of each episode of Black Rabbit is going to be one hour. Netflix announced in May that the limited series is 8 episodes and the 4 different directors of the show will direct 2 episodes each.
The first two episodes are directed by Jason Bateman himself. The director of the third and fourth episodes is Laura Linney, Bateman’s partner in Ozark. Ben Semanoff, another director of the Ozark series, is in charge of episodes 5 and 6. Lastly, Justin Kurzel, the director of Snowtown (2011) and Macbeth (2015) is wrapping up the show with the last two episodes.
Black Rabbit is another collaboration between Netflix and Aggregate Films, the production company of Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan.
So, many executive producers who worked on the company’s previous works, such as Florida Man, Ozark, and Based on a True Story, are producing Black Rabbit. Furthermore, the creative writing team consists of Zach Baylin, the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of King Richard, and Kate Susman, executive producer of The Order (2024).
