How To Fix iOS 6 / 6.1 Jailbreak Lockdown Error In evasi0n
After comex’s JailbreakMe, “evasi0n” – Team Evad3rs’ untethered jailbreak tool for all devices running iOS 6 and 6.1, including iPhone 5 – has to be the easiest way to jailbreak your iOS device. You connect your iOS device to your PC, click “Jailbreak”, tap the “Jailbreak” icon on your device, and voila! Cydia and its vast repository of excellent tweaks is available at your fingertips. As robust and easy as it might be, a very small percentage of people are facing a “lockdown” error message when they try to jailbreak their device. If you too have been looking for a solution to this problem, look no further. We’ve got an easy fix after the jump!
We came across two slightly different error messages, actually. There’s –3: “Could not connect to lockdown”, and –12: “Failed to connect to lockdownd.” While we aren’t exactly sure what’s causing the issue, the fix for both is the same and should be so for every other lockdown error as well.
Before you do it though, please note that this fix requires you to perform a complete factory reset of your iOS device. Keeping that in mind, we strongly recommend backing up through both iTunes and iCloud. Just in case, you should manually backup photos, videos and notes as we have heard instances of iTunes having trouble restoring backups for a jailbroken iOS device.
Although the fix is quite straightforward and risk free, we can’t guarantee the safety of your device or data. As always, proceed at your own risk.
Simply open up the Settings app and navigate to General > Reset, then tap “Erase All Content and Settings”. After that, if you already have evasi0n running on your desktop, exit and restart it, and follow our awesome guide on how to jailbreak untethered on iOS 6 and 6.1.
Last year’s Absinthe jailbreak tool for iOS 5.1.1 had a similar issue, and the same solution.
There is one other thing you can do to fix any other error messages you may receive: running evasi0n “as Administrator” on Windows, and using an administrator account on OS X.
If that still doesn’t fix the problem for you, send out a tweet to team evad3rs: @pimsheks @planetbeing @pod2g and @MuscleNerd. They might fix your issue in an updated version of evasi0n.
Currently, jailbreaking iOS 6.1 using evasi0n breaks the stock Weather app. Team evad3rs member pod2g has identified the issue and has stated that a fix for it is on the way.
Hi/ please can anyone help? This is the info I get on evasion
Version 1.4 when I try a jailbreak
Error getting product
version (lockdown error – 3)
You say that the way to fix this is to go to the settings
App to reset etc. But my problem is that I can’t get into my iPhone 4s to do this,
I can only get to the setup your language screen and then it won’t let me past
that.
i have “failed update to file” when to step final
I have “lockdown error (-256)”. What should I do?
Try factory resetting the device as written in the guide. It should fix the error. Don’t forget to create iTunes, iCloud and/or manual media backups before you do. Factory resetting wipes all data.
I’ve managed to JB my phone on other PC, it’s some problem with temporary files on your PC.
