How do I make Minecraft run faster on my iPad

Minecraft has an iPad version and it offers the same gameplay as the desktop version of the app. The iPad has a powerful processor but it is still a tablet. If you have an iPad Pro you get the best processing power there is but few people buy an iPad Pro to play Minecraft.

Minecraft on iPad

If you have a non-Pro model iPad, you can install and play Minecraft on it. For the most part, it should run fine. iPad apps rarely have performance issues but games are different. Here’s how you can optimize Minecraft to run faster on an iPad.

Change video settings

The video settings in Minecraft, regardless of which version/platform you play on, often determine the quality of the game.

  1. Open Minecraft and go to a world’s settings.
  2. Select Video settings.
  3. Reduce the render distance.
  4. Reduce the FOV.
  5. Turn screen animations off.
  6. Turn off Beautiful skies
  7. Turn off Smooth lighting.
  8. Turn off Fancy graphics.
  9. Reduce the Render Distance.

Lag on certain iOS devices

The above settings should give you a much better experience with Minecraft on any iOS device. Play around with these settings until you find what works best for you. That said, Minecraft will still lag on some iOS devices. This is a known issue and according to the Jira ticket for it, it has yet to be resolved.

The problem appears on both high-end and low-end devices. Users have reported that reducing the rendering distance isn’t any use. It seems to affect both the iPad Pro and the iPad Mini models. If you have a different iPad model, even if it’s an older one, you can try playing the game on it. The game requires iOS 10 or later so even a really old iPad model should be able to run it.

Conclusion

Minecraft is available on almost every gaming platform there is. The iPad isn’t really a ‘gaming platform’ but that doesn’t mean you can’t find some truly incredible games to play on it. For the most part, these games tend to be visually stunning and rely heavily on high-end graphics. Minecraft doesn’t have high-end graphics but the gameplay is processor intensive. If your iPad is having problems running the game in all modes, it’s is likely the game that is the problem. If you’re only experiencing lag when you connect to a server, but the game works great otherwise, check you ping and try connecting to a different server that is geographically closer to you.
