How to fix charging problems with iOS 15
iOS 15 released last month. Like most iOS updates, users have installed the update en masse. For most users, the update has gone smooth but some users are having troubles charging their devices. This bug is plaguing both iOS users i.e., iPhone users, and iPadOS users i.e., iPad users.
Charging problems with iOS 15
The charging problems on iOS 15 are manifesting in the following different ways.
- Device won’t turn on after hours of charging
- Device won’t charge via a cable
- Poor battery life
Device won’t turn on after hours of charging
If your device won’t charge after updating your device to iPadOS 15 or iOS 15, try the following fixes.
- Make sure you’re using an original Apple cable and charger. The update may have caused problems with third-party cables. It’s always a good idea to use the original cable and charger.
- Check the power source: if you’re using a direct power outlet, check if it’s loose and try switching to a different one. If you’re charging the device by connecting it to a USB port on your computer, switch to a different port or switch to a direct power source.
- Clean your port; if the port is dirty (it can get clogged with dust), it can interfere with charging. Clean it up with a very soft brush.
- If you’re on a Windows system, open iTunes and then connect the iPhone to your system. On macOS, make sure you have Finder open and then connect the iPhone to your Mac. The phone will turn on.
Device won’t charge
If your device won’t charge, but it’s still on i.e., you have some charge left, run through these fixes.
- Restart the device; press the volume up, and volume down button, and then hold down the power/sleep button. Slide the power slider to turn the phone off. Connect the phone to a power source and allow it to turn on. It should start charging normally.
- Try factory resetting the phone but make sure you have everything backed up first. The factory reset will erase all data on the phone. Open the Settings app. Go to General>Transfer or reset iPhone>Reset. Select Erase All Content and Settings.
- Make sure you’re using an original Apple cable and an original charging plug.
Poor battery life
A lot of users have complained of their phone’s battery draining too fast. The easiest fix is to upgrade to the latest iOS version. iOS 15 had battery drainage issues but iOS 15.1 does not have this problem.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Go to General>Software Update.
- Install the latest update.
Conclusion
The battery drainage problem is the more common problem. It seems to impact users on older iPhone models. Those with an iPhone 13 don’t seem to be experiencing it much. Upgrading to the latest version of iOS should fix most problems. If your phone won’t turn on, it’s best to take it in for a repairs and a check up.
