How to Change AirPod Name Across All Apple Devices
As someone with a host of devices stacked up for pairing in their Bluetooth menu, it’s imperative to rename each to something unique for easy identification. You don’t want to waste time searching for what’s ‘what’ while trying to pair any device.
If you’re an Airpods user, you can do the same for your wireless buds in your device’s settings, be it on an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook. And the good news is it’s a relatively straightforward process. Read on to find out how to go about it.
How to Rename Your Airpods on an iPhone or iPad
Renaming your Airpods is the same regardless of the type in your possession, be it 1st/2nd generation of Airpods, Airpods Pro, or Airpods Max. You can rename any of them on your iPhone and iPad with the steps below:
- Open your Airpods case and bring out the pair of buds
- Launch the Settings app on your iPad or iPhone and go to Bluetooth
- On the Bluetooth screen, browse through the list of Bluetooth devices under My Device
- Once you’ve found your Airpods on the list, tap the circled i icon next to it
- On the next screen, tap the Name menu and rename your Airpods
- Once you’re done typing the new name for your Airpods, tap Done on your keyboard to save the changes.
And there you go! You have successfully renamed your Airpods. You can confirm this by returning to the My Device section in the Bluetooth settings.
How to Rename Airpods on a MacBook
The process of changing your Airpods on a Mac is a tad different from that of handheld Apple devices, but you should be up and running in no time with the following steps:
- On your Mac desktop, click the Apple symbol in the top-left corner of your screen
- Next, use the drop-down therein to select System Preference
- On the System Preference screen, navigate down the menu of apps and select the Bluetooth icon
- Ensure your Airpods are already connected to your Mac.
(If you don’t know how to, check our guide on How to Connect Airpods )
- With your AirPods connected, check the Devices section on the Bluetooth screen and right-click your Airpods
(To perform a right-click on Mac, press and hold the Control key while you click.)
- Next, select Rename from the options
- Now, input the new name for your Airpods and select Rename when done to save the changes.
With that set, you’ll see your Airpods listed under the new name when you return to the Devices section under Bluetooth.
Final Notes
That’s all you need to set up a new name for your Airpods on Apple devices. As deliberated earlier, the process is the same for all generations of Airpods, so you shouldn’t run into any issues while following the above steps.
Meanwhile, if you need to rename your Airpods on a non-Apple device, go to the device’s Bluetooth settings and rename your Airpods if they’re on the list of devices therein. If you found this guide handy, you should check how to connect your Airpods to Apple and non-Apple devices
