The same thing will happen if you’ve borrowed a friend’s backpack where the owner has left an AirTag for tracking. The warning usually reads: “AirTag Found Moving With You. The location of this AirTag can be seen by the owner.”

It’s simply an automated warning sent to you by the Find My network’s security system to inform you that you may have become a subject of unauthorized tracking.

It’s not illegal tracking if you know who owns the AirTag. Then you can disable the tracking system to keep your location or travel path private.

Once you return your friend’s belongings, like their backpack, you can inform them that you’ve found the AirTag and have deactivated it for a while. Your friend can easily activate the AirTag later.

• Touch the alert that you see.
• The iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch device will open the Find My app. 
• A pop-up will ask you to tap Continue.
• Now, just tap on Play Sound.
• If you hear a sound, locate the AirTag.
• Place your iPhone or any other NFC-enabled mobile phone near the device.
• When a notification opens, tap on that to find more details about the AirTag.
• If the portal shows that the owner has reported the tracker as lost and you know the person, you may try to return it.
• If you don’t know the owner or suspect that you’re being tracked, you can simply remove the battery of the AirTag. 

Sometimes, if you’re highly concerned about the tracking so far, you can reach out to the local law enforcement agencies and report the incident. Apple cooperates with law enforcement agencies when the agency needs to investigate such complaints.
