How To Add Google DNS On Your iPhone
We remember websites by their name and URL. Websites need to have a simple and easy to remember name that a user can type directly in the address bar to visit it. The shorter, more memorable a name is, the better. URLs are really just the user friendly version of a website’s actual address. In reality, website addresses are a series of numbers. In order to translate a URL into this address an intermediary service called DNS is used. A fast DNS means your website is found much more quickly. A lot of people use the Google DNS on their desktop because it’s fast and reliable. You can easily add Google DNS on your iPhone and speed up browsing.

iOS WiFi Settings
You can add multiple DNS servers for a single connection in iOS. When you edit the DNS, it’s your choice to remove the old one and then add Google DNS on your iPhone, or to keep the old one and add the new one right next to it.
These settings differ somewhat from iOS 10 to iOS 11. Open the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi. Tap the little ‘i’ button next to the network you’re connected to.
The DNS in iOS 10 can be edited just by tapping it. You can add a second or third DNS server by separating it from the previous one with a comma. In iOS 11, you need to tap ‘Configure DNS’ under the DNS section, and switch from Automatic to Manual. Next, tap ‘Add Server’. Enter the Google DNS server address and tap Save at the top right.
That’s all it takes. The new settings will take effect right away and you won’t need to restart your device. You shouldn’t have any problems even if you choose to add more than one DNS server, however if you experience connectivity problems keep only one DNS server and remove all others. This is likely a problem with your router and not iOS itself. In fact, it’s not even a problem and more a difference in how your router is configured.
Is This Legal?
Google’s DNS is public and free to use. It’s owned by Google of course but the company has offered it up free for use to anyone. Lots of people on both desktop and mobile use Google’s look-up service everyday. The DNS will help resolve a website’s address faster but other than that, it does nothing. If you’re trying to use the DNS to access restricted content it won’t work. A VPN service is the way to go if you’re trying to get around a firewall.
