Add A Stopwatch To The iPhone Lock Screen With Stoppur

Whenever you have to use the stopwatch available in your iPhone, there is a possibility that you will forget all about it once it goes to the background and you start using another app. This is because for some inexplicable reason, iOS does not show any notifications or even an icon badge when the stopwatch is in operation. Stoppur solves this problem quite efficiently. Recently released in the Cydia store, this tweak does something even more useful than adding a badge to the Clock app; it adds the entire stopwatch display to your device’s lock screen. Of course there is no way of controlling the timer without launching the Clock app, but having the continuously updating time display right on your lock screen can certainly come in handy in a lot of situations.

The developer of Stoppur has made the tweak as simple and unobtrusive as possible. Changing any of the options listed in the Stoppur menu won’t make any apparent difference to the lock screen. The tweak works its magic only when the stopwatch is running in the background. When that is the case, you will see the timer in the top half of the lock screen. It is possible to completely replace the lock screen clock with the timer as well, and it will work only while the stopwatch is in action; at other times, the clock remains visible as usual.

An alternative way of viewing the stopwatch on the lock screen is to use the ‘panel’ offered by Stoppur. To make Stoppur fully compatible with themes and tweaks that change the interface of the lock screen, this panel is really important. In order to keep the default clock undisturbed, toggle on ‘Show panel’. This keeps the clock visible at all times, and displays the stopwatch timer below it. If you want to change the position of this panel, you can easily do this by changing the X and Y coordinates listed under the ‘Panel position’ section of the Stoppur menu.

To round up the tweak’s impressive feature list, there is the ‘Show total time’ toggle. Thanks to this option, you can choose between viewing just the lap time, or the total duration elapsed sine you started the timer.

Stoppur is priced at $0.99, which is a fair price for a tweak of this kind. So, if you want to make the stopwatch more universal than it is by default, head to the BigBoss repo of the Cydia store and grab Stoppur.
