Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Set to Release in 2025
Marvel movies are hugely popular, so it’s no surprise that Marvel games are equally beloved. We still don’t know a ton about their newest upcoming title, but there is enough information about Marvel 1943: Rise of the Hydra, that we think it’s worth diving into. We’ll cover what we know about the story, which characters to expect, and the different ways to play it when it comes out. If you haven’t seen it already, here’s the official story trailer:
What is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra based on?
The Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra game is actually based on a limited comic series that was created in 2010. Called Flags of Our Fathers, it depicts Captain America and The Black Panther (in this case, T’Challa’s grandfather Azzuri). The pair work together to foil the Red Skull and the Nazis during World War II, forming an uncertain alliance that turns into a growing respect for each other.
From the trailer and everything else we know about the upcoming game, it seems that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is going to follow the comic fairly closely. This should not only make fans of the original comic happy, but it should give the game a rich, well-developed storyline to jump off from. The game takes place in Nazi-occupied Paris, which gives players a unique and historically relevant setting to explore.
The official game description quote reads, “In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy.”
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Platforms
The game hasn’t been given an official release date yet, other than being available sometime in 2025. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra console details haven’t been released yet either, but it is fairly safe to assume that the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, with a good possibility of PC availability too. Older consoles, like the PS4 are unlikely to be able to handle the graphic demands of such a game, so new releases on older systems seem to be phasing out.
Who can we expect to appear in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra?
We can expect to see some new faces in the Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra game, and some familiar ones too. Here’s a rundown of the characters we know about so far:
Captain America: Aka, Steve Rogers, this iconic hero is in his element in this game. He’s fighting Nazis in his original time-frame, before getting trapped in ice and frozen for decades and later joining the Avengers. From the trailer, it seems he is determined to do his duty and he seems to disagree with Azzuri’s methods, the two even coming to blows. It will be interesting to see how their alliance forms.
The Black Panther: Aka, Azzuri. The grandfather of The Black Panther from the Avengers, Azzuri has his own reasons for going after the Nazis. In the comics, the Third Reich invaded Wakanda to take their Vibranium to advance their missile systems. Theoretically, this scenario could be duplicated in the game, giving Azzuri plenty of motivation to involve himself in the plotline.
Gabriel Jones: A U.S. soldier and member of S.H.I.E.L.D. ‘s Howling Commandos squad, which was historically led by Nick Fury in the comics. In the Flags of Our Fathers graphic novels, Gabriel is the narrator, giving readers a more everyday person’s slant on the super-human people around him. It’s gratifying to see that his importance seems to have been continued in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, as he was well-loved by fans of the original comics.
Nanali: In Flags of Our Fathers, Nanali was actually the Queen of Wakanda, and married to Azzuri. Despite that, her role in the graphic novels was minor, at best. Marvel has seemingly given her a more interesting slant in Rise of Hydra. She plays a Wakandan spy, living in occupied Paris. It looks like she could have a much more interesting role in the upcoming video game, with a more important part to play than just being in the background.
Other characters: There are still a lot of unanswered questions in regard to other characters. It isn’t a far stretch to assume that Red Skull will make an appearance, considering he was also in the comic version. But, will Nick Fury appear? In the current credit list for voice actors, we do see Howard Stark named, so Iron Man’s father will likely make an appearance, especially since he was so involved with Captain America’s origins. What other familiar faces to expect, only time will tell.
