Is Saints Row 2022 a Remake?
Ever since the release of Saints Row 4, gamers have been itching for the next addition to the series. While many believed that Volition Inc., would deliver on this request, instead we got Agents of Mayhem. This has left fans with an emptiness inside, as they felt like no true successor had yet arrived.
That is why, when rumors started emerging that Volition would be working on a project called Saints Row (2022), gamers everywhere jumped with joy. In fact, almost immediately fans began to point out similarities between the newly leaked screenshots and Saints Row 2.
If you take a look at the images below it becomes difficult to deny this assumption.
In this article, we will find out whether the 2022 version of Saints Row is actually a remake, or whether it is simply an early build of Saints Row 6.
What Is The Difference Between a Reboot and a Remake?
Before we give an answer to this question, let us first understand what these terminologies mean. When we mention reboot, we are referring to the act of restarting a series or franchise using familiar concepts and characters, but with new details. Whereas when we say remake, it is meant that the game is more like a retelling of the original experience.
In both cases, however, the story of the prior chapter is generally still canon. In layman’s terms, a reboot can be seen as a second season to an anime, while a remake is more like a movie that retells the original series. As you may have guessed, in this article we will be discussing whether or not Saints Row discusses a remake, we mean taking an older series and giving it new graphics.
If Saints Row (2022) is actually a reboot, then what Hope County (Agents of Mayhem), was to the Saint’s Row series; we can assume that the 2022 version will be to Saints Row 2. Now there has been no official statement from Volition Inc., regarding this matter, but that does not mean we cannot gather information from the leaked screenshots.
Gameplay Similarities
We mentioned earlier that the general consensus is that Saints Row (2022) is a remake of the previous title, but now we understand what those words mean, it makes even more sense. For starters, both games are set in Stilwater and have similar combat styles. When comparing shots from both versions this becomes extremely noticeable.
Along with the similar locations and gameplay, the similarities go even further. For example in one of the leaked screens, we can see the protagonist walking around a community center, which seems to be based on Saints Row 2’s “playmate.” This also links into the game’s missions, as it is implied that there will be activities for players to engage in, like strip clubs and dance-offs.
