How to Plant Bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Bamboo is not like any other plant littered across your island. You have to source the shoots on other islands and then bring them onto yours to plant. The scarcity makes it a precious plant to have around.
If you’ve learned how to get bamboo in Animal Crossing from a mystery island, the next line of action is to plant it on your island. This guide will walk you through that. So, keep reading to learn how to plant bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to Plant Bamboo on Your Island
Since bamboos don’t automatically grow on your island and can only be gotten from a mystery island, your best bet is to grow them on your island should you need some pieces later. You can get three different materials from a bamboo plant, which are as follows:
- Bamboo piece
- Young Spring Bamboo
- Bamboo Shoot
Bamboo pieces and Young Spring are just materials you’ll come across in some DIY recipes. Bamboo shoots, on the other hand, are the real deal. Not only can you plant them for bamboo trees to grow on your island, but you can also eat them to strengthen your character to harvest an entire bamboo tree.
Once you’ve found some bamboo shoots and brought them onto your island, follow the steps below to plant them:
- Find an ideal spot where you’d like the bamboo to grow
- Dig a hole on the spot with a shovel
- Once you’ve dug the hole, stand in front of it
- Next, open up your inventory
- Locate the bamboo shoot from the mystery island and select it
- Finally, select Plant 1 to plant the bamboo shoots
- Alternatively, if you brought an entire bamboo tree from the mystery island and intend to plant it, there’s no need to dig a hole
- Simply choose a spot where you want to plant it and open up your inventory
- Next, select the bamboo tree and then Plant Here to erect it on the spot
And that’s it! You just planted a bamboo tree! The tree will mature fully in four days, after which you can mine it for bamboo pieces, young spring bamboo, and bamboo shoots. Even more interesting is that you don’t need to water a bamboo plant. Save all that stress for the fruits and Flowers on your island.
You can populate bamboo trees on your island by collecting shoots from the ones that have bloomed fully. However, remember that a bamboo plant can only produce shoots once. Anyone that has already been mined will not produce another shoot when hit with a tool. What you’ll get instead are just pieces of bamboo and young spring bamboo.
